How long do you spend at TS island?

It has been quite a few years since we rafted over. Back then our trips were more commando and we didn't do leisure. We're going in a few weeks for 9 days, so have plenty of time. Our DD is 14 and read the book in school last spring, so she thinks it would be interesting. Our DS is 5 and I know there are activities he would enjoy such as the fort, bridges and caves. I'm wondering how long you spend there when you take it at a relaxing pace. Also, are there any hidden things easily overlooked. Thanks.

Our DS have always liked TSI, and never want to leave. They especially enjoy the barrel bridge. They like going thru the cave, and when they were little, playing on the playground at the top of the hill. They also like going out to Fort Sam Clemens and shooting the guns, and exploring the passages out there. In summer, they usually sell frozen lemonade out there, so it's a nice place to let the kids run around, and sit and enjoy a cold treat! We usually end the time there by enjoying pb & j sandwiches from Aunt Polly's kitchen, but I think I read somewhere they are no longer serving out there! Bummer!

We went there for the FIRST time , this trip. We loved it!!! Nice and peaceful, quiet, and not crowded!! My son loved the canons in the fort too!
Aunt Polly's was closed when we were there...I think it is seasonal though????
TSI is a must, and I agree about an hour (maybe a little more)

We also do about an hour or just a little bit longer. Its nice to let the kids run around and explore the caves and the fort while the parents chill out a while.
