My other camera was purchased in 2002 before our least Disney trip and I just recently purchased a new one.

Just out of curiousity, how often do you buy a new camera?

one camera a year for point and shoot, one camera a year for dSLR walkaround, one camera a year for dSLR studio

I'm showing my age here :lmao:

First SLR in 1972

First digital point and shoot in 2000

First digital SLR in 2005.

Yup, I hold onto 'em!

ROTFLMAO!. If it's not for work, I won't be buying that many dSLR. Point and shoots are completely different beasts, I can get them for myself at wholesale from my friend's store (in return I do product testing for her store... little she knows I really enjoy testing all kinds of cameras LOL!)

Until I accidentally snag the strap as I pull a blanket out of the closet, the camera bounces off my head (nifty scalp wound) and smashes to the floor.

That was my Minolta SLR, two years old. Broke into several bazillion pieces.

Now if my Canon F-1 from the early 70's had fallen on my head, I would have been out cold but the camera would still be intact.

Currently have a teeny tiny Minolta digital that when the flash goes off everyone's eyes in the picture looks like they're in the Village Of The Damned.

Really, really want a Nikon G series digital SLR. Hopin' Santa brings me one this year...

Can't remember how many point & shoot cameras. :confused3

Have purchased 2 film Canon SLR cameras (still have one).

Got my first digital in spring of 2004. :crazy2:

Got first digital SLR April 2006!

What is SLR?

SLR stands for Single-lens reflex camera. Some examples are the Canon Rebel, Rebel XT, 20D, 30D (can you tell I am more familiar with Canon?), Nikon D70, Nikon D200.

Basically those big cameras we can switch lenses on. :)

In high school I 'inherited' my dad's camera that he bought to take on his honeymoon with my mom. That camera is a Minolta SRT 201. I used that camera for 12 years, until my DH recently got me a 20D. The only problem with my film SLR is that the batteries were becoming harder and harder to find - in addition to the cost of developing the film.

I plan on replacing cameras every 2 generations. So I will skip the 30d and and wait for the next camera in that line. IF that next camera does not meet my needs I will buy whatever comes closest.

so about 3 years(1.3 years togo).

35D is looming. 10 MP, DIGIC III (yes, that's a 3) and faster processor. This is based on my friend the store owner told me. So take it with a grain of salt. No ETA just yet, maybe unveiled during Fotokina?

Seeing as how the 30D was announced in Feb of 2006, and seeing the average time between models(in the same line) is close to 18 months.
I am targeting Fall of 07.

Announcement dates

May 2000= D30
Feb 2002= D60
Feb 2003= 10D
Aug 2004= 20D
Feb 2006= 30D

Only once did Canon not wait 18months, and that was from D60 to 10D which was a 1 year wait. I doubt that Canon would introduce a new model in that line within 7 months.

But if it did happen(it may) I would wait until after XMAS to purchase it.

I don't have any of my first camera's. I had either a Kodak 110 or 126, then a Kodak Disk. My first SLR was I think a Canon (kind of a hybrid, didn't really go well with other lenses, had only its own 2 lenses). I got that sometime around 1987. Had that along with a Nikon N6006 (which I got in 1989 or 90) till they were stolen in 1996. In 1997 I got the Nikon N70 (which I still have) and used exclusively till I got a digital P&S in 2002 (Canon S30 which I also still have). I now use a Nikon D50. If the 6006 wasn't stolen I would probably still have it. I probably wont start looking to get another camera for at least 5 years (so long as it doesn't break or get stolen). But I really don't see myself getting a new camera for quite some time.

I keep mine until it breaks (usually due to me dropping it, but one time it got maple syrup in it) :confused3
