How long do you keep old records and files

of medical bills, cancelled checks, miscellaneous paperwork. Also how do you keep other important paperwork like mutual fund records, childrens' report cards, etc, etc?

I keep mine for 7 years....except for my tax returns...i keep them all...

I use either a safe deposit box at the bank..or a fireproof lockbox at home....
