How long do you have to activate an Annual Pass before it expires

I tried doing a dummy booking to see if it would tell me when the pass expires, but I don't see it unless I'm missing it somewhere. I was wondering for a Florida Resident Annual Pass how long I'd have to activate the pass before it would expire. I know it's good for a year once it's been used, but was wondering if you can hang onto the pass before activating for a while longer? I know they increase prices every year, we aren't planning on going any time soon, but if they don't expire too quickly was thinking it would make sense to by it now.

At least 10 more years. I think the current expiration date is 2030

My unused/not activated APs show an expiration date of 12/31/2030. Given how big the last price jump was, I almost wish I had purchased a couple more of them.

With the anniversary coming, I'm about to use a whole lot of credit card points on Undercover Tourist (which codes as travel for those with one of those cards), to pay for most of the cost of 4 tickets that I'll upgrade to silver pass exchange certificates when I go in January. Our current ones are good until next November but I'm going to bet on a pretty big increase right before we see all the new rides open.

That's great they aren't going to expire until 2030! I have Disney withdrawal I haven't been since April and when we had the pass we went a lot. But we let our passes expire and trying to save up some money to buy a house. I'm thinking we won't go back until 2021 at the earliest. I figure they usually raise the prices every year and with the 50th anniversary coming up will for sure increase it.

I don't think I'll buy more than one, but if I do how does that work? I just keep them in my account and activate it when I want to use it? Are there issues when going into the park with an active pass and they activate the unused one by mistake?

Yes, they just sit in your account until ready to use. Until they have been activated, you can reassign them. So what we did when we bought ours (we bought two each) was create two dummy people in the account and link the unactivated APs to those people. When we got ready to activate the first set last month, we moved one AP over to the real version of each of us. So the real us now has an active AP each and the dummy people each have an unactivated AP. Plus, an AP has to be activated by going to a ticket window or Guest Relations. The system will not be able to use an AP that hasn't been activated yet, so there's no chance it will accidentally use the unactivated AP instead of an active one.

If there isn't any chance the unused one gets accidentally used is there a reason you create the dummy people for the second passes?

Just better so that in case of a system malfunction, it doesn't actually activate the new one before the old one expires.

We bought new ones from Sam's Club when they raised the price for AP's. We actually paid $866 an AP (before taxes) back in the summer. They don't expire until 12/31/30.

I mostly do it to make it easier to see at a glance what I have that's active vs. what I have tucked away for later use. We bought two APs each while we still had active ones, plus we have a few multi-day tickets for later use, plus one old no-expire ticket with a day left, so having the dummy people helps me keep things organized.
