We were looking to go around the 5th of January next year (2004) Are the xmas decorations still up? Park festivities? We've never been for those things so it would be nice to catch them :)

CP is over on New Year's Eve, if I remember correctly. Decorations start coming down after New Year's Day, but some may still be up.

I was at Epcot last night and was suprised that the archway of lights were still up and on. Those light look great but the christmas music was gone. The Osbourne lights were up until the 5th of January this year.

In general it appears that the decorations stay up until around the 4th of January each year. There are some exceptions, like the gateway at Epcot, but in 2001 it wasn't a slow removal process... EVERYTHING came down overnight. I wouldn't count on seeing much, if any, decorations if you get there on, or after, the 5th.

Most of the decorations will be gone by the time you arrive.

For the past several years, the last performances of the Candlelight Processional have been on 12/30.

The Osbourne Lights have been "lit" through the Sunday after New Year's Day.

In 2001, we were at WDW (BWV) from January 5 - 12. We were able to see the OL (the Sunday after NYD was 1-7-01). There were still some decorations up on the BW (I remember a poinsettia tree in the courtyard), but they were completely gone several days before the end of our trip.

The good news for you is that you have chosen one of the most uncrowded times to visit. Have fun planning!

Hey Carol from MN...how do you like the warm weather today?

Thanks everybody....I might move the trip to later in the month then if this is the case!!

Just back from Jan 1-5th trip and the big trees were still up at each park and the Osborne Lights were on through the 5th as well as the archway at Epcot. No holiday shows or parades though. Personally, I would move your trip to later in the month if possible for the lower crowds. The New Year week is still pretty busy.

2002 we were there the 11th-17th and got to see all the decorated resorts. The Osborne lights were gone, as was the park decorations, but the resort trees were up for our entire trip. We weren't expecting it, so it was a bonus!

Awesome weather for Minnesota in January! We made 51 or 52 yesterday on what is statistically, the coldest day of the year! Last night the TV news people said we were warmer than many places in the southern U.S. (New Orleans and Atlanta for example).

Today is great, too! Sounds like tomorrow brings back more "normal" weather, though. Can't say I am looking forward to it.

Feel kind of bad for the people who love winter sports and those who make their living from snow. Appears the east coast is getting our snow this year.

Well I am enjoying the lack of snow for once! ;)

Thanks everybody for your help!!!

I, too, am considering going next year (2004) around January 5. I've gone for the last 3 years that very first week in January, and for some reason this year I didn't. One year, I arrived on January 5, Osborne Lights were scheduled to have ended, so I didn't go to MGM. Instead I went to DTD where I met some people who'd just come from seeing the lights (Grrrrrr!). That year all the decorations were up til January 8th. Yet, 2 years ago I went to Epcot on the second, then also on the fourth. Christmas tree was up on the 2nd but not the 4th. Last year, most all the decorations were still up when I left on the 6th. So we'll both keep our fingers crossed. I'm especially hoping for the Osborne Lights-they're scheduled to end on the 4th, but believe me, I'll be in MGM January 5th.
