The mircle baby thread got me thinking.....for those who have had (or have husbands that have had) a vasectomies, how long did it take for it to work? I know your supposed to go in at 12 weeks to test it, but does it really work that fast?

I believe the more it gets used the fasted it will work :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

My hubby never went back to get check but I was pregnant when he had it done.

Well there is not hard and fast rule because you have to factor in how many times the person has had umm relations.

You need to get two tests that come back before you are sterile.

Mine took in 6 weeks. First test at 3 weeks was Zero swimmers, Second Test at 6 weeks had Zero Swimmers.

It seems all hospital conglomerates have different time frames, but the test (HAving Zero Swimmers two tests in a row) is pretty much standard.

I was thinking 12 seemed long but figured it was the standard. DHs may have been sooner than that. I just know he went in when they said to (and it would not have been more than 12 weeks) and again the next week.

I think my husband was supposed to go get checked at around 6 to 8 weeks.

Emphasis on the supposed. :headache:

It's been about 8 years now so I guess it worked.

It's been about 37 years since mine, but I seem to recall being given the green light after just a few weeks, if that. Since my yougest is 38, I guess it worked. :upsidedow

:lmao::lmao: My youngest is 6 so insert that for 8 years.

He had it done right after she was born, doc refused to do it when I was pregnant. We were careful(backup protection) for the next 25 times, that's what doc told him was the minimum before he should come in and get checked. Well work would never give him 5 minutes to go to the lab (opened after he started work and closed before he got off work) so eventually he gave up trying to go in to get it checked and we figured he was good.

I didn't feel too good when a guy he worked with got his wife preggers a year after his vas and he never got checked either!

The doc that did my husbands claims to have a 0 failure rate but he does it in a way it's not able to be reversed and warns people of that before he does it.

:lmao::rotfl2:

My DH is supposed to check this week (wee 12) and for some reason I have this question in the back of my head about if it worked or not.

I have not heard of them failing. But you will get the tests done and know for sure. Trust me, I dont think your DH wants to go back for round 2

Oh they fail all right.

A friend of mine didn't get the "all clear" on his three follow ups. Apparently his has some internal difference in his anatomy and has an extra "tube.":confused3 He had to go back and have a second vasectomy.

dh's dr told him it to be tested at 3 months and 30x, then retested at 10 days after that.

My friend's DH tested clear twice in the weeks following his 7 years ago. They are due with surprise baby in October.

Yes, they can fail. So can a tubal, fwiw.

DH went back twice after his V to be checked, I'm thinking it was 6 weeks and 12 weeks, and he was clean both times.

my 30 day checkup was 0%
My 60 day checkup was 50% normal :scared1:

my 90 and 100 day were down to 0%

i always wodnered what happened with that 60 day.
