How long can you camp without moving?

I was wondering how long you can stay in one campsite. Do some people, for example, spend the entire winter at Fort Wilderness?

Hi jodifla!

Yes, people can and do stay in one place for weeks/months/years at a time. However, behind the scenes they are still subject to the same reservation rules that apply to everyone.

The key is each reservation can only be 30 days in length maximum so you would need multiple reservations back-to-back (one check-out day is the next check-in day, etc) to accomplish a long term stay.

The other key is that there is no discount for long term stays so the rate you end up paying is the best rate you can get/find/use via any discount offered by Disney, a Disney credit card, AAA (sounds like it's going away), or anything else. Just because a discount is offered doesn't mean it will be available to you. Some discounts may only apply to "N" number of sites and if you are the "N+1" person to call and request the discount, it won't be available. So point is you may have to pay close to rack rate even for a long term stay.

As long as your back-to-back reservations are the same type of site (Premium on the 1st, Premium on the 2nd for example) you won't have to move at all - just go up to the office on check-in/check-out day to start the next 30 day reservation. There are a number of "snowbirds" that spend a few months at the Fort and a few have literally been there for years.

Good luck with your plans.

I always loved the idea of spending January through March at Fort Wilderness. I think its great that people actually do this!

1) If MrsRustyScupper keeps me supplied in beverages, I can usually camp in my chair for 2½ hours.
2) Without moving, except for my right arm to place the beverage container against my lips.
3) After a short potty break, I can camp another 2-2½ hrs.
4) If she is cooking, instead of me, I am good for another 2-hrs.
5) Hope this helps.

as long as you can pay you can stay!!! and yes its very pricy we figure about $4000.00 a month or $1000.00 a week, we stay Jan-Mar and it is fun!!! K.:thumbsup2

Aside from the $$$$'s which I would never spend, as much as I like Disney, I would get very bored. We usually stay there 10 days at a time and that is plenty for us. We like to keep it fresh and enjoyable - there's so many other places that we enjoy going.

Yes, I know there may be people that are content to stay put there that long, also pay the price, but we like to 'go' and 'do' too much to stay put.

To each their own, for sure! :goodvibes
