Someone mentioned that they waited 20 minutes in the line just to get to the desk to check in for their ADR's at Rose and Crown last Sept. :scared1:
I am going in January, so how early should I arrive to allow time standing in line just to let them know I am even here? I do not want to be marked down as a no show because I was stuck in a line trying to check in. Here is the real world the check in line is either none of only a couple of minutes, so I am wondering what to expect at WDW? We are going in two weeks. Thanks for any advice!
Here are my ADR's:
1) Raglan Road 6pm,
2) 50's Prime Time 1135am,
3) CA Grill 730 pm,
4) Le Chefs de France noon,
5) Rose & Crown 735pm,
6) Boma 605pm,
7) Liberty Tree Tavern noon,
8) Boatwright's 515pm,
9) Le Cellier 1155am,
10) Via Napoli 700pm,
11) Kona Cafe 830am,
12) Captain's Grill 630pm,
13) Afternoon Tea at Garden View Tea Room 210pm,
14) 'Ohana 800pm.

We've never had to wait that long and we always go in the summer when it's busy. Disney advises you to be at your restaurant 15 min. early before your reservation time. If you're park hopping or traveling to a resort for a meal, be sure to allocate plenty of time for your transportation. We have young children so our reservation times are typically earlier than some you showed you had so that may affect things. I would definitely plan on arriving the 15 min. ahead of time as Disney suggests, but I wouldn't think you would have to arrive any earlier. On another note, we miscalculated travel time and we arrived too early to our reservations (30 min. early) to three of our reservations last time. We were seated earlier than our reservation time at all three.

As the PP said: arrive 15 min early as advised by Disney.

We were at Epcot 3 times late last Sept. and did encounter quite long lines at check in. Also found this to be true in MK and DHS. We put this down to free dining and the huge demand for seating at that time (even tho the crowds were quite good).

But I doubt that this will be a factor when you are going to be there. Enjoy your trip!

That was me :goodvibes Yes, PPs are correct - if you arrive 10-15 mins early you will be fine. I was not penalized at Rose & Crown for being "late", since the line was so long. They did not treat me as a walk up because of that. I did not have a wait to check-in at any other TS places that week.

I have heard that the first reservations for any meal (ie: 8am ADR at Tusker House, dinner ADR at Ohana) can have a longer wait because people for many different time slots will be there to check-in - the 8am people, 8:05am, 8:15am people, etc. since the restaurant is just opening. If you have any ADRs like this, I would arrive maybe 15-20 mins early.

But I doubt any restaurant will penalize you if you get to them 5 mins late because their line was long.

It can definitely take 15-20 min to check in. Problem is Disney does not keep a different line for walk-ups so you get stuck behind 20 people with no ressies arguing over getting in to eat and not taking no for an answer.

R&C is often particularly slow at dinner ADRs with people spending endless time arguing to wait for a table to watch Illuminations.

Other fun guests that hold it up are the ones who check in and table is ready- but they need to explain they are all here except for their son and husband who are in line at a ride, grandma who is halfway across the park, their daughter who is in a shop, and their sister who ran to the Ladies room, but they are ready for their table.:rotfl:

The check in line at ohana in early December was really long, but it was also opening time...it stayed in the 10 min length after opening, but we weren't round by 8 pm

O'hanas line was looooooooong. R&C and Chefs were pretty bad and T-Rex was crazy. There should be differant lines for people who have ADR's and those who don't.

We always go in January and have never had to wait any more than a couple a minutes to check in. Except at Ohana's which always seems to have a huge line to check in. We always arrive at the restaurants at least 15 minutes early, even earlier if we're hungry

Ohana and Le Cellier are the only places I've had a long enough wait to check in to stand out in my mind, out of probably 75 ADRs over the years, and those were in the 10-15min ballpark to get to the podium. The problem tends to come up when there is someone or multiple someones ahead of you trying to sweet talk/bully/bribe their way into a walk-up in a full restaurant and refusing to take no for an answer, and that doesn't happen at many restaurants in the off season because they just aren't that packed. If you arrive the recommended 15min before your ADR time you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for all the answers! :goodvibesThis will help ever so much in planning my time.

That's exactly what happened to me at R&C - lots of walk ups trying to barter and plead their case and the hostesses were too polite to tell them to take a walk.

R&C seems to always be particularly busy that time of night because of booked ADRs and Illuminations loiterers.

Although - someone posted that they couldn't check in until their ADR time at 50's PT. So, if you get in line early there, they may turn you away which is ridiculous. Like you're supposed to get in line timed exactly to arrive at the podium at your ADR time. BAH!

January is easy everywhere, You can usually get walk-ups at every restaurant.
