How late is too late?

I'm with the others, 9 on weekdays, 10 or 11 on weekends.

I have teens and a basketball hoop. They know better - mostly because we had unsupervised teens who didn't know better living on the other side of us for many years. They know how loud basketball is - and how hard it is to go to sleep when you someone is playing nearby!

BTW..my son (14) is a 5.0 student, and the captain of the basketball team..and the offensive leader three years in a row...so all those late night on the driveway pay off.( or maybe, the thousands we spend yearly at basketball camps, summer travel league, and private 1 on 1 lessons with a former pro). But whatever...he is happy!

Oh OK, as long as he is happy it's alright if he keeps the rest of the neighborhood up. WTH You wouldn't last long in my neighborhood.

What, however, does this have to do with the OP's question?

Scholars/athletes/beauties/artistically talented (choose any combination of two) are exempt from all rules needed to live in polite society. At least it seems to be pretty commonplace; after all, if they were also considerate, they'd be perfect.

Nope. Not true for all of them. I have "A" students and we do not do that crap. It's nothing to do with the kids' talent and all to do with the lack of "give a bleep" on the parents part. Lazy parents dont care what their kids do to others around them.

If those noisy kids are so perfect maybe they should be volunteering at the homeless shelter passing out towels and meals at that time. Yea, I highly doubt that would be the case becasue as previously stated mom "doesnt care".

It takes much more than good grades to make a good person.

We have a street, more of a lane, behind out house, and the boys play basketball late at night, and have lots of friends over on weekends (they converted their detached garage into a hangout, with a pooltable. However, they don't wake my children (we're on the opposite side of the house), so it's not a problem. I also know there are a wonderful family, and if I asked them to stop, they would.

If my children were disturbing someone with noise, even if it was before the noise ordinance, I'd have no problem telling them to find something else to do. We live in an area like the OP, not much room between homes, and even when my kids were little, and up at down, I kept them in the house, knowing that my neighbors were sleeping.

Or the grandkids being raised by the grandparents who didn't do the job right the first time so they're screwing it up the second time too by allowing the next generation act like complete jerks and run all over the neighborhood all hours of the day and night "because he's 12 and can do what ever he wants to do!"

check with the town, most do not allow the hoops that face the street any more due to being a road hazard. If they have one of those hoops they can be told to remove it. If it is attached to the house or garage then the noise ordiance will take effect.

I would call the police and let them take a ride by and tell them to stop, if it is after 11pm.

I'd politely ask them not to play after 10 (or 9 if you're an especially early riser), and if that didn't work, there is always the option of installing a motion-activated strobe light on the side of your house. It's kind of tough to shoot baskets under a strobe.
