How late is too late?

Do you know your local ordinance? Lived on LI for 16 years, and there were always enough rules about this sort of thing to keep neighbors under control (unless they have a cop in the house)...

Week nights, 9pm. Weekends maybe later. Certainly no later than 11pm.

No I don't. I'm going to check and see if I can find anything online about that. Thanks.

Wow...really!
My son shoots outside past 11:00 quite frequently, especially during the Summer.
Granted..the houses are not that close..but when they are playing a game of 2 on 2..or whatever...they get loud.

I don't care...there are sooo many other things they could be doing!
Get a fan for white noise!

Thanks, I may just be extra sensitive to it right now knowing that my husband has been talking about going to bed early tonight due to him having an important work related meeting tomorrow. Hopefully it ends by 11.

Thanks for your opinion. A fan would not touch the noise being made outside. LOL I agree there are so many other things they could be doing. Too bad for me they didn't choose something a little quieter.

10 pm is the norm around here.

Of course, last night we were watching Craig Ferguson and our neighbors got into a very nasty argument. We tried to not laugh when we heard through our bedroom window, "Well, then YOU can buy the eggs and YOU can buy the bread!"

OMG, I about died. Those poor people and all it did was make us both giggle. Today, we went to the grocery store (we did errands separately today so we could shop for gifts for each other) and we each bought a massive amount of food!

Agree with Shortbun during the week, 9pm or when it gets dark, whichever is latest.

You wouldn't be a be thought of as a very considerate neighbor in my area. With people leaving home at 5-5:30 am to start their long commutes, going to bed earlier is a requirement. Kids know that when it gets dark they need to move their gatherings inside, and shift activities from bball to something more appropriate from a noise standpoint.

I think no later than 10 and, possibly, 9. I see you have young children and I think your neighbors should be mindful of them.

In our small rural town...the town curfew is 10 pm Anybody under the age of 17..must be in their yard by 10pm. It's kinda silly!

When the boys are here playing...I have to walk the boys two houses down to their yard.or they can get a ticket for curfew! Our house is the favorite because we have a lighted court and a 72 inch backboard! The lights are directly on the Basketball hoop assemby.

Sometimes, they will want Gatorade or something..and i have to walk with them to the local gas station.

So, sometimes, I just let them do whatever they want in our yard. I swear the police park down the street to see if they leave the yard!

BTW..my son (14) is a 5.0 student, and the captain of the basketball team..and the offensive leader three years in a row...so all those late night on the driveway pay off.( or maybe, the thousands we spend yearly at basketball camps, summer travel league, and private 1 on 1 lessons with a former pro). But whatever...he is happy!

Yeah, I agree. When my 6 year old want to ride his bike up and down the driveway, using a very loud outside voice, I make him wait until noon knowing my neighbors on that side have teenagers who may want to sleep in. Well they are still going strong at 10:40, I sure hope it ends soon.

but if your 6 year old wakes them up early...the TEENAGERS may go to bed earlier that night...lol!

Just an idea ;)

Glad you aren't my neighbor. ;)

Our town noise ordanance is 9pm. Basketball bouncing is just one of the examples.
I would have to check as to what time it is for the morning side of the ordanance.

OT a bit but not really...
I have a neighbor behind me and one to the side of me (they are friends) and they will have their kids running around screamng (playing) in the dark on school nights. I mean loud obnoxious screaming and they too simply DO NOT CARE. I dont understand how someone can just NOT CARE. I think it's sad. There was once a time when people cared if their children had manners. Talking about MY NEIGHBORS. Not anyone else.

Nobody has ever complained about the basketball games in our driveway.

I guess the neighbors two large Rottweilers barking at the wind drown out all the noise the boys make :)

I totally agree with this!

I can justify neighbors being quiet for many reasons. To allow my teenage DD the opportunity to sleep until noon is not one of them.:lmao:
