How does Flight of Passage compare in intensity to other WDW rides?

We are taking DD7 on her first trip, and she has discovered that she does like rides in moderation. She's excited about the "Mountains" at MK (though a bit uneasy about the darkness of Space Mountain) and isn't sure about Expedition Everest (going backwards gives her pause). She is super excited about Soarin' - maybe that's the closest comparison?

Also, how far apart are the ride vehicles? Could I hold her hand if she wanted me to?

I can request FPs for FoP 65 days out so I think I have a shot at getting them ... just don't know whether I should.

Lots of young kids on the ride loving it. I usually hear "That was awesome, can we do it again?". The seat are close ,you can hold hands with no problem.

Yes, Soarin' would be the best comparison to FoP, however Soarin' looks like ancient technology by comparison. There is nothing "scary" in FoP, so that shouldn't be a concern. One of the biggest differences is that in Soarin' the seat you sit in actually rises far above the ground, in FoP it doesn't really move. You sit on the ride and are basically watching a movie (much fancier than that, but in concept that's what it is). Sure, you can hold her hand, but it may take away from some of the ride experience just a tiny bit. Tell DD7 to gently squeeze her legs against the ride...remember in the ride the concept is that you're riding on the back of a banshee. The ride vehicle actually very slightly inflates and deflates between your knees, as if the banshee were breathing. Pretty cool touch.

It's a Disney ride so it's very kid friendly. I've seen plenty of young kids on it then get off and ask if they can ride again

I would grab the FOP FP+ if you can get them and then see how she does on the roller coasters and other rides in the days preceding FOP. I can take roller coasters in moderation (BTMRR and 7DMT are fine. I can ride Space once. I will never ride EE or RnRC again) and I LOVE FOP! It is very smooth and is visually stunning. If she can handle BTMRR and Soarin', I think she would be fine on FOP.
