How is your Mohawk SmartStrand carpet wearing?

Hi -

We are looking at the Mohawk SmartStrand carpet for our family room. One of the major benefits is that any stains clean easily. If you have this type of carpeting, have you found this to be true?

Because its our family room and we sometimes spend time sitting on the floor, we were looking at the cut-loop style (seems much softer than some of the others). Does anyone else have this type? If so, have the threads unraveled at all? Since part of the room is a high-traffic area, we are concerned with the wear.

Thanks in advance!

i havent had my smartstrand very long (less than a year), but i can say it has delivered thus far. after a red wine scare that left no trace behind, im convinced the stain protection is for real. regarding traffic, the jury is still out simply because we havent had it long enough. we dont have any pets either so im not sure if we will ever put it to the "test" in that regard. but so far, so good!

I have a sample of the SmartStrand with mustard and ketchup stains "setting in". I plan on trying to get the stains out tonight. (We have cats who like to puke while we are at work so often it dries pretty well before we find it!)

Thanks for your input.

I have what they call Rhino carpet( it is the Mohawk smartstrand) at the store I bought it from. They put wall to wall carpet in a rhino cage for two weeks and then cleaned it afterwards. Right now we only have it on the stairs. We have three children and one of them spilled Hawiian punch on it. Couldn't see the stain. I am actually picking up carpet today for three bedrooms and a landing upstairs made from the same material.

You can google Rhino carpet and they have a video of it.

i brought ssmartstrand because of that very rhino carpet demonstration! i was very impressed and i wished i could have seen it all happen at the zoo in person. fyi, for cats throwing up (we have the same problem) i use a stain remover spray from stanley steamer that works incredibly well. it works very well on all carpets we have ever owned

I'm looking to carpet one small room in the house I just bought. I was looking at Lowes and they have free installation with purchase of Stainmaster carpeting and pad until March 7th. Just a little FYI for anyone looking for carpet right now.

I'd love to know the results of your mustard and ketchup stains.

I was told by the Stainmaster salesman that mustard is the only thing that will permanantly stain Stainmaster.

Good news! The mustard and ketchup stains are gone!

The information I saw regarding removing stains from the SmartStrand carpet is to use a mild detergent. I used a generic dish detergent (I didn't want Dawn to be the real reason the stains came out!) and some warm water on a washrag and used a bit of elbow grease. Both stains are gone. Actually, the ketchup was a bit harder to get out as it was gooped up pretty good, but it's gone now.

Additionally, I had read that this carpet can also withstand bleach. Well I did that as well and they are correct. I put straight chlorine bleach on a paper towel and rubbed it on another section of carpeting. Not only did it not stain the carpet, no color transferred to the paper towel.

So far, it seems the carpet lives up to the advertising.

Our final concern is the unravelling of the cut loop carpet. We can unravel them by hand and wonder how long they will last in a high traffic area. Additionally, wouldn't using the vacuum on this carpet encourage unravelling?

We are thinking of replacing our carpet with the Smartstrand & was wondering how everyone was liking their carpet now that you've lived with it a little while. Also, does anyone know the difference in the Smartstrand & Smartstrand Sorona?

I was googling on the internet about Mohawk carpets and this old thread came up. how is everyone liking their carpets now?
