My newest obsession is home decor, and I LOVE hearing how others have decorated their home! We are renting right now, and can't do much, but often talk about what we will do when we purchase our first home. We have "plans" for each room, LOL.

SHARE SHARE! Details are good ;)

Aimeedyan -

Please come and help me. We have remodeled our entire house and I have to redecorate everything. I have no idea what to do and I am procratinating like crazy! I always thought I would enjoy working with a blank slate but I am really stressed out about it.

Denae

In my house, the rooms have different styles.

My 2 bedrooms are Victorian/cottage/shabby chic style with lots of pastels, lace, flowers and antiques.

My living room is earth tones and has an Asian theme with bamboo, black laquer, greenery, decor from Chinatown with Chinese characters and has some books about Asia lying around too.

My bathroom is Disney themed! Cinderella is the theme and its done in "Cinderella dress blue", navy and grey.

My kitchen's theme is country cats, and has cats potholders, towels, jars, etc. Wicker baskets are all around to give it a "country look".

Living room is "outdoorsy". Lots of wood, animal knick knacks and wall hangings - earth tones.

Bathroom is also sort of outdoorsy with ivy wallpaper, ivy wall hangings

The rest of the house is "Early American Nothing". We'll get to them someday.;)

Denae, I totally agree! We want to totally remodel the kitchen as well as the bathroom, and do some redecorating elsewhere in the house but I am so overwhelmed by it all it is not fun like I thought it would be! I used to love decorating, but that was when I had the time to do it - now with 3 kids and a full-time job it is just no fun anymore. I even have the name of a great decorator, but even so, the whole thing is overwhelming I cannot even bring myself to take the first step in making it happen. I have a feeling this is going to drag on and on and on!

We have remodeled nearly every room in our home. I would say our style is somewhere between English cottage and Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware. Master bedroom is blue and white (toile & stripes) with cherry furniture. Bathroom is blue & white- costal spa motif. The dining room & living room are a red and creamy color. Red sofa, waverly red print chairs, cherry antique dining table & chairs. The guest bedroom isn't done yet.
The kitchen is sort of the odd ball. Sort of Tuscan-ish. Black walnut cabinets. Greenish granite countertops, stainless steele appliances with golden/creamy colored walls and tiled floor.

Ours is decorated in preschool style.:teeth:

Toys, kids' art work, toys, toys, toys, toys... (you get the picture)

I LOVE to decorate also!!! It is a big hobby of mine. I help all of my family member do their houses...so much fun!

My kitchen is French Country. Upper half is taupe/lower half is dark sage green. I have a fruit border dividing the two colors. I love pigs so I have several pigs in there with roosters, grape vines, etc. I just love it!

My great room is just comfy with over-stuffed furniture, Daniel Moore paintings on one wall...for DH and traditional/country decor on the other. I guess you would call this room eclectic.

My living room is very traditional with vaulted ceiling, floral fabrics, and family momentos.

My dining room is also very traditional with antiques and the wall color is hunter green.

The master bedroom is painted Crimson Red! We love it! It is also traditional with cherry wood furniture. The fabrics are crimson and gold.

The guest room is very feminine with floral fabrics and a swag draped above the bed.

My son's room & bathroom are all him.....nautical. He is 16 and we both love nautical stuff.

Was that too much info? LOL!

My house is quite the mix and match setup! Like Goofygirl, my living room is Asian. I grew up in Asia...so it is my home away from home! The rest of the house is definitely odd! My son's room has a nautical theme, my daughter's room is beaded board..sort of country...my family room is VERY neutral, browns and greens. My kitchen is green with ivy wallpaper....getting kind of tired of that though. Bathrooms are sage green and ivory, with the exception of the kids (frogs!) and the guest bath (wine, gold and ivory). What a hodgepodge!

My house is a little on the modern/contemporary side - although you'd never know it from the outside. I have silver coffee tables, black bookcases & entertainment centers, and Picassos (not real, unfortunately) on the walls. I do have one room with framed black and white photos I took on the walls.

Most of the rooms feature gray or black complimented with tan or cream, except my bathroom, which is blue.

Not many people like this look.

Oogieboogie -

We must use the same decorator! Our entire house seems to be decorated in Fisher-Price, Playskool, and of course Disney!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

jkovick - I must ask, where did you find bedding for your master bedroom? I am wanting to rededorate my master in what sounds like just what yours in done in, and have been looking for 2 years for bedding in a pretty almost Tiffany blue and white. No flowers, but toile and stripes or solid are perfect! Your taste sounds much like ours!

I thought I'd share what ours is decorated like, and what is planned for other rooms when we acquire them (yes, I'm a dork and have been buying things I see on sale and packing them up so we have stuff when we move... decorating can be expensive if done at one time!!!) Before we moved to our current rental home, we did have every room painted to match...

- master bedroom is currently in yellows and periwinkles. I made fabric covered cornace boards in a stripe with blues, yellows, pinks, purples, reds, etc, and have yellow drapes. Artwork is currently masterpieces DH and I painted ourselves using periwinkle and yellow paint. This room -will- be in blue and white, very tranquil and spa like, mostly solids with touches of light stripes and toile when we move or when I find a bedding set I like. Walls *would* be periwinkle with current decor, but will be a light blue when I change things over

- kitchen is done in yellow and navy blue, to match the placesettings we have from Crate and Barrel. Multi colored striped rugs under our island and in front of the sink bring in additional bright colors. Applicances are all stainless steel and black. Walls *would* be yellow

- living room is very clean, with a khaki simple couch, print chair in muted earthtones, dark mahogany clean line tables, and dark mahagony china cabinet. Navy drapes, black and white wedding pics (journalistic style) in black frames on walls. Chrome accents... this stuff will go in our formal living, when we acquire one =) walls *would* be burnt red, to bring out accent color, I think. We did have khaki, but it was a bit too boring for me.

- guest room will be done in mainly black and white, with red accents and a Parisian twist. I am slowly buying some kickin vintage paintings from Target with this room in mind...

- bathroom is done in blue/teal/yellow/purple stripes. walls *would* be periwinkle

- dining room is done in burnt reds/mustard yellow/blues with burnt red drapes, yellow mirrors, chrome chandelier with blue shades over each bulb, and a NYC print. table is stained dark with blue wood chairs, and striped placemats in above colors on table. Our placesettings match this, as well. I will move this stuff to the breakfast nook when the time comes...

Still looking for perfect decor for office, extra baths, formal dining, and casual living... Such fun!

DH THINKS he will have his own "cigar room" when we move that will be decorated in dark "manly" colors, prints of cigars, and his growing collection of humidors and cigar boxes. He's got another thing coming =)

Thanks for sharing, you are inspiring me so much! =)

Not very well! LOL I love seeing how others have decorated thier homes, but I have to admit, I'm not very good at the whole home decor thing! OH well!

Decorating is all I think about right now since we are in the selection process of building a new house!

kitchen - deep red walls, warm maple cabinetry, stainless and black appliances, center island painted cream with a dark cambria countertop (nottingham). black cup pulls and black iron drop pendant lights. that sounds really dark when I write it all out, but we'll have plenty of light in there, oh with slightly lighter maple flooring. I also have some bright green canisters that will go on the countertop. The main countertop is just a tan laminate.

Dining room will also be red. I hope to put a new table in there soon.

We'll just have 3 colors in our new house - red, green (sort of a sage but brighter, closer to a citrus, but not that bright), and a tan that leans a little towards the green family. Carpets and floorings are neutral. We are doing a checkerboard VCT flooring in the entry/mudroom/laundry room that should be fun.

Our bathroom will be the tan color and I just picked up some towels from Restoration Hardware in their silvery sage color. We'll have white countertop and tub with brush silver hardware.

I could go on, but I've bored you all enough!!

I'm looking forward to reading this whole thread when I have more time!

For me...

Hardwood floors throughout.

Living room is "forest." My mantel (stone fireplace) has a scene of little artificial pine trees, Lincoln Log cabins, Wilderness Lodge totem pole (Mickey, etc.), toy bears and moose, etc. Audubon bird prints on the walls. One blue wall: a custom color that I "invented" and Home Depot made for me. It's Behr's Monet Lily, with some of the red taken out so that it's not quite as violety. (I started out with the Monet Lily but once it was on the wall it looked WAY to violet. They took it back and came up with exactly what I wanted.)

Dining room has white walls, but cobalt blue and yellow accessories. Lots of family pictures. Antique furniture that was my grandmother's. The piano is also in there. It's very peaceful, and I love it. Someday I want to do put beadboard panelling on the lower half of the wall.

Kitchen continues the forest theme. Bears and moose. Beautiful old pine cabinets. We finished a ready-to-finish counter-height table and stools to match the cabinets. One wall is sponge painted in a way I can't describe, but has yellow and creme and brown. It looks cool. You'll have to take my word for it unless I can figure out how to post a picture.

4yoDD's room is Disney Princess. It has a dark-pink and purple castle sponge-painted on the one wall. Pink walls and blue ceiling. Veil thing over the bed. Princess poster and decorations.

11yoDD's (aka AmoDolphin on the teen board) room is all dolphins. Blue walls, framed dolphin posters and accessories. We painted swirls of blue on the walls for "currents." They're the same shade of blue as the walls, but gloss instead of eggshell. We did one set of 3 swirls as a hidden Mickey.

13yoDS's room is made out of Ikea bookcases in one corner of the (finished) basement. He doesn't really have a theme, but he has lots of Bionicles and airplane/rocket stuff.

Master bedroom has a bit of a nature theme (fern prints on the walls, and a framed Monet water lily poster with the blues I love.)

Upstairs hall has waterfall pictures. One is a photo sized picture of Niagara, and one is a HUGE tall picture of Bridal Veil falls at Yosemite. I got them both at http://www.art.com.

Bathrooms don't have themes yet.

Early basketball, post modern soccer, Colonial football,
Traditional Gamecube, books, games, toys! Oh, I forgot that
much of our furniture is covered in clothes and books. Pillows
cover the floor and the kitchen counter is fruit and vegetables
while our frig is in family photo style. Seriously, our house is
Arts and Crafts so we have some arts and crafts, a lean towards
Victorian in some areas and DH made most of the wood furniture-
in Arts and Crafts style. This includes our bedroom suite and DS's
bedroom suite as well as a couple of bookshelves and tables.
To compliment the Arts and Crafts, I have collected several
primitive antique tables and stands. Fabric is appropriate for the
same period. Our kitchen is southwest with copper accents and
the bathroom is deco with dark green and variations of purple/burgundy. Old oak floors throughout.

I'm caught somewhere between "nicely decorated" and "early Salvation Army":p ! I'll try to be brief.

Recently bought new LR furniture... leaning towards French country. Upholstery has fruit/flowers/bugs all over it.... sounds weird but I love it. Wood furniture is oak with a somewhat orangey natural finish. Walls are a cream with a greenish tinge. Carpet is "pb&j-stained" tan.

Kitchen was repainted this spring from american country quilt stencil in blue and pink on cream, to yellow walls with blue counters and accents... again leaning toward French country. The only wall decor is a copper pot, three old clock faces nicely aged and dinged, and a plate from Pier One that is blue and yellow and white that I superglued a picture hanger to the back of. And there is a window frame mirror that my SIL made from a salvage window.

Mudroom.... slightly paler yellow than kitchen. A few random dragonflies stamped around. Great blue/yellow floral print I got for $1 at the salvage store.

Downstairs half bath is a masterpiece in PURPLE!! I love it. I built a padded cornice for the window with a cream and purple toile on it.... very classy for the potty!!:snooty: And I took the chandelier I was replacing in the dining room and spraypainted it with Fleckstone in a tan/pink and put faux leather shades from HD on it.... very fancy lighting for not much $$. Adds an interesting touch to the bathroom. Again, it has a rather French country feeling to it.

Dining room has never been redecorated except for new curtain and rugs about a year ago. Cream walls, tan carpet, pressback chairs and matching table that DH bought me as a Christmas gift the year before we were married. Walls have a stencil that is bunches of dried flowers hanging from swagged ribbons. 10 years later I still like it, but the walls are really starting to need repainting. Curtains are a floral on off-white back ground from K-mart Martha Stewart collection. Rug is a pink/blue/yellow floral on black background wool needlepoint rug I got a WONDERFUL deal on at a local salvage type store.

Master bedroom.... again, not redecorated since we moved in 10 years ago. Cream walls, tan carpet, early american style quilt stencil done near the ceiling in navy, cranberry, green. Navy and white plaid-ish curtains (plain pole top with tiebacks) with matching dust ruffle on bed (made myself). Star pattern quilt on bed when we have company..... otherwise old, soft, plain tan comforter for every day. Wedding day picture over bed. EArly american type print done mostly in cranberry over entertainment center. Pictures of children around in other places. Furniture is a hodgepodge of hand-me-downs (two dressers and entertainment center), yard sale (book shelves), unfinished furniture store (end tables), cheap store (scrapbooking table and blanket chest) and homemade (headboard.... did it myself in one day.... really should attempt to fix the mistakes!;) ) I would really LOVE a new bedroom set, but everytime we have the $$ it seems to be needed elsewhere or else I'd rather use it to take a vacation!!

OUr bathroom.... nondescript.

Kid's bathroom.... green walls on bottom, cream on top with sheep stencil. Shower/window curtain in green with floral print. Shaker type peg board running around the perimeter.

DS's room... Lt. blue with Buzz Lightyear EVERYWHERE!!!

DD's room.... Pink with Disney Princesses everywhere, but she is starting to outgrow it.... not sure what will be next.

Playroom.... walls done in different pastels on each wall (Lt. purple, pink, pale mint green, yellow). Neutral berber carpet... old slate blue couch/chair from living room, airhockey table, old red desk to hold computer, lots of toys!!!

That's it for me!!!........................P

Edited after I saw it.... SORRY TO BE SO LONG!!!
