How is your home decorated?

I am still in the process of decorating my new home, but in general I would call it old world/fantasy.

Here is a picture of the furniture in my bedroom. I have done it with deep salmon, green and gold tapestry bedspread. The walls in the entire house are a very pale yellow and the carpet is a light beige. I am still waiting on the drapes for my bedroom, but they will be green with one panel in the valance of the deep salmon.

My daughter's room is going to be totally fantasy. Here is a picture of her bed. Her bedspread has beige, deep puple and rose colors in it. Her carpet is the only carpet in the house that is not beige. Her carpet is a deep green shag. We've put silk vines draped over the side poles on the top of the bed. We haven't bought her dresser or nightstand yet, but she wants something very old world. Her drapes will be beige with purple in the valance.

The kitchen and family room area have natural stone tile. The cabinets are white with leaf knobs. The countertop is a green. I put silk vines on the top of the top cubboards. All of the appliances are white. The kitchen table has a cherry top and iron legs. The chairs are iron with a cherry inset at the top. The chair seats are a dark leaf pattern fabric. I have a baker's rack that matches the table. The sofa in the family room area is a camel colored leather. I eventually want an entertainment unit around our big screen tv, but haven't found the one I want yet. The windows will have cottage shutters. They are currently on order.

DD's bathroom has white tile with a green leaf tile around the top of the shower. Her cabinets are white with a jade colored marble countertop. The cabinet knobs are maple leaves. She has the old fashioned chrome faucets and clear glass shower doors. She has deep green shag rugs on the floor which also are natural stone tile.

My bathroom is an pentagon shape with a whirlpool tub along the center back wall under a large glass block window. I have white cabinets with 6 ft tall mirrors. The tile is a deep beige with a rust colored design. The faucets are chrome with gold accents. The towels are rust colored with gold tassels. The rugs are gold shag.

I just got my new living room sofa today. It is green (seems to be a common theme in my home) overstuffed with big pillows. It is the only thing in the living room at this point.

I've yet to furnish the other rooms.

Throughout the entire house, you will find many Amy Brown prints of fairies, unicorns, dragons, gargoyles, etc.

Currently, we've not furnished DD's study. After she gets furniture, she has autographed pictures of each of the nine members of the fellowhip from the Lord of the Rings movie to hang on the walls.

Yes, we live in a fantasy!

One thing that really stands out in our early preschool style is the abundant use of stains and spots. Apparently that's the hallmark of early preschool.

Oh, and I also heard the other hallmark are little tiny plastic pieces embedded in the carpeting so you can't see it but you can definitely step on it.

Toys, kids' art work, toys, toys, toys, toys... (you get the picture)

LOL- Mine too, with a touch of teenager thrown in (CD's, books, huge shoes, and then all the young kid stuff as above- every room is a play room... )

I love earth tone colors and I have a vision for my kitchen to do it in an Italian theme. But everywhere else I was so inspired by AKL that I have a dark leather couch and chair and a lot of real dark nick nacks that remind me of the lodge. I love it.

I'll start with my favorite...the bedroom. Walls are painted a bright yellow and the trim is white. I have a tall white headboard that has three "fake" windows across the top and beadboard below; footboard is beadboard also. All other furniture (end tables and TV stand) is white, with the exception of a large gentleman's chest that's a country blue. Sounds like a wierd combo, but it looks great. Black & white flower photos in silver frames and other silver accents around the room; white curtains. I change up the bedding, sometimes a white comforter with white & yellow flower sheets (summer), sometimes a sage green printed comforter (with the blues & yellows from the room) with coordinating sheets (spring/fall), and sometimes a tan comforter with dark brown printed sheets (winter).

Our bathroom is all white, including the ceiling, walls, vanity and shower curtain. Accent shelf above the toilet, mirrors and other accessories are chrome. Very simple, but it's a small room with no window, so it doesn't close it in.

The family room is currently off-white with the trim and beadboard painted dark tan on the entire fireplace wall. It has Warren Kimble cow border along the ceiling. But it's time for a change. I actually took almost everything off my walls in this room to sell at my yard sale this past weekend, and now I'm going to spend the money I made on redoing this room. I have some contemporary items in the room now (black "floating" tv stand, black & white photos) that I want to build on. I have some nice b&w's from disney, one of the castle, one of the Red Sox mickey 75th anniversary statue, and one of the Boardwalk sign (one of our favorite places down there!). I need some ideas on paint color, and then will have to slip cover the loveseat, buy a new chair for DH, new curtains, etc.

Our kitchen/dining room/hallway walls are tan with burgandy trim & doors. Light stained cabinets with chrome hardware. I bought some pieces in natural wood (table & chairs, kitchen island and stools, rolling cabinet) and a chrome bakers rack. Main ppliances are white and black, and the smaller ones that I leave out are all chrome. I'm getting closer to the modern/industrial look I want in there...but it's time for a paint change, too.

Finally, our office is being painted later this week a light greyish blue color with white trim. We are going to accessorize with black framed pics, shelves, etc. and make it into a Patriots/memorabilia room. We have so many ticket stubs, pics of different sporting events & concerts that we'd like to display but never took the time. So, I'm taking two days off of work to complete this room.

So sorry for the long post. I couldn't resist sharing my decor with you. Hope you enjoyed reading my post.

Tkyes, it sounds beautiful!!!!:)

Mine, something out of Pottery Barn. Very neutral, light and airy--somewhat beachy. Doesn't match the mtns of E. TN but that's OK. I'm happy in here! LOL

I'm getting ready to do my bedroom with bead board half way up painted white and the rest of the walls a blue color. Very cool and relaxing. I can't wait!

DD's room is a collector's nightmare. There's WDW stuff and so much basketball stuff in there, I am not sure how she gets rest! LOL

I work at home, doing hair, and want to redo my shop also. If I can just find the $$ for all this and WDW too. LOL

Our house is all country, main living room is a country green with stained waynes coat all the way around. With holstein cows placed in various spots along with floral arrangements on the walls. Kitchen is all country too with apple items all over the place. Game room is done NASCAR style with die cast everywhere. Kids rooms are designed to each of their style. I guess the master bedroom is the only room not finished yet. I haven't decided what colors or design I want. Master bath is beige with burgandy trim and sea shells border and accessories. Don't make any sense, once we get done redoing all the rooms we are just selling anyway because we want more property.

Mine is themed like a movie, the set of Twister

When I get my "grown up house" I think it will be "Arts and Crafts" period. I live near the home of historic Roycroft..I love their style.

We will be building a new house (house plans are almost finished...yay!), and I think I will be consulting with a decorator. I am overwhelmed! I think I want to decorate it in some kind of coastal/mediterranean style, but I don't even know where to begin.

This thread is great. It helps to hear what everyone else is doing!

I guess I would say colonial/traditional, with a bit of Shaker and coutnry thrown in.

Livingroom has white walls, with a cherry trim, green/peach print couches, braided area rug in shades of green, peach, gold mostly. Occasional tables are cherry Shaker style...very plain.

Dining room is white walls with cherry trim, blue & pink braided rug, with a very colonial style dining room set (which we bought used for $250, so we couldn't be totally fussy about the style!).

Den is blue plaid furniture, leather recliner, blue braided rug.

Kitchen is white with apples as the main theme.

All florrs are hardwood under area rug, including kitchen.

Bedrooms are plain cherry Shaker style furniture with silvery-gray wall to wall.

I really need a country house and a city house, because I have two (closely related but different) styles going on. Our kitchen/ breakfast area/family room is "40s." I like to say it's the house that my grandmothers couldn't afford to have. We have the breakfast table that DH's grandparents bought from the Sears catalogue in the 30s, lots of vintage linens, fruit chalkware on the walls, painted white cabinets with glass knobs...I took my 80s kitchen back in time 40 years.

The living room/dining room/3rd living area is 50s/mid-century modern with Heywood Wakefield furniture, about 20 starburst clocks, the cool old lamps, shadow boxes, etc. When the 3rd living area is done it will be more "fun" modern...we recovered a 50s sectional with chartreuse ultrasuede (I think it sort of shocked the kids).

Our bedroom upstaris is where I have an outlet for romance...dark antique bed and dresser, black and creme toile, etc.

It's sort of beach cottage style.

The living room gets lots of sun through the huge window at one end. To play up the outdoor feel I painted the LR a light blue with cream color trim. The furniture is cream with touches of blue, green and oak wood with wicker baskets and a chair as accents. Plenty of plants (real and fake) around too. In the daytime it looks like you are sitting outside.

My kitchen is bright with peach walls, cream and black accents plus bronze burner plates.

The bathroom is in an ocean theme with the shower curtain covered with bright fish. It has a yellow rug and towels in yellow, coral, green, grey and white.

In my bedroom I wanted to capture the look of sunset. The walls are a muted pink with muted purple curtains. Decorations include beach themed artwork.

I have a queen anne style 130 year old house that we just closed on 2 months ago and are SLOWLY decorating. It has lots of wonderful original detail... narrow strip oak flooring, beautiful chestnut moldings and stained glass in every room. Pictures and decorating ideas can be found at this website until comcast takes them down

The kitchen was redone by the previous owner with natural maple shaker style cabinets and "green glace" formica (sort of a sea green). I changed out the country green and white plaid porcelain knobs for brushed satin knobs on the doors and cup pulls on the drawers. The appliances and sink are white and I am doing a white crackle finish subway tile backsplash with mosaic glass accent stripe and a design behind the range (haven't gotten to it yet). I am taking down the country wallpaper but I'm not sure what to paint the walls yet. I want to do white wood blinds and keep things simple. There is beadboard wainscot and a chairrail in there also and the floors are the original fir subfloor, very distressed, very cool. Under the sink you can also see the remnants of the old brick fireplace in there (just the hearth). The rest of the bricks made a patio and pathway in the garden.

The diningroom has very traditional mahogany furniture and a large wool throw rug. I want to pull the blue and cream/gold out of the throw rug and paint the walls above the chair rail a pale gold and below a deep blue. For the windows I want to do a simple roman shade in the same pale gold as the walls, either a silk dupioni or a linen, something natural but with some texture. I will mount them below the stained glass and inside the trim.

The livingroom is the project currently being planned right now. There is a gorgeous floor to ceiling window that I don't want to cover but which has made furniture planning a challenge (the previous owner put a couch in front of it and we didn't even notice it the first time, but we don't want to hide it). On my website there is a plan showing the type of couch I want to use... one of those "mini sectionals" that has a chaise lounge on one side and a loveseat with only one arm against it. On the other side of the window will be a chair (didn't put it in the plan, oops) and I'd like to get a leather storage ottoman for additional seating and a corner entertainment cabinet similar to the one shown (but taller and wider). As far as what color to paint it, I'm not sure... the rug in there is absolutely PERFECT and has lots of browns and beiges and terracottas in it in addition to the blue... I am sort of thinking of pulling out a terra cotta from it but not sure yet.

The master bedroom is the most "victorian" looking room of the whole bunch. We upgraded to a king bed when we moved and got a headboard that coordinated somewhat with our furniture. Behind the headboard will eventually be drapery panels to hide the off center window there. The quilt that we are decorating around is a velvet patchwork quilt in jewel tones... rich red, dark olive, lighter green and a rich eggplant (very dark amethyst). AND it's machine washable, bonus! I'm not sure what color I want to paint in here but the quilt is so dark and the room is so small, I want to keep it light. I also want to change out the blinds with white wooden ones and definitely take down the fugly wallpaper. My favorite piece in the room is my antique tiger oak sewing machine cabinet that someone converted to a vanity.

As far as the rest of the rooms, we haven't really figured them out yet. We already have a list that is more than we can afford!

Love this thread as I am in the middle of repainting all of the rooms my house. Started in march hope to be done by November! I would call my style traditional.

Kitchen - white cabinets and applicances, wedgewood blue paint, new laminent wood floor (light oak), light oak table/chairs/bar stools, a bit of a lighthouse them for accessories

Dining Room - faux painted bronze/gold shades on top, cream on bottom. curtains are blue with bronze/gold and burgandy

Living Room - sage green, floral chairs, eggplant sofa. green/eggplant curtiains.

FR - slighly country, blue/cream checked furniture w/ eggplant accents, eggplant rug, cream walls

guest room - yellow walls, white/yellow/pink/green bedspreed and valances.

hall bath -yellow walls, sage green and yellow accessories.

the rest is a work in progress.

ECLECTIC I've tried to go with one style, but my obsessions seem to take over. I'm a collector of anything old and find it difficult to get rid of a good flea market find. I keep crowding things in.

I do love early mohogany furniture.
