My development is holding an outdoor candlelight ceremony at 8:00pm; someone in my development was murdered on 9/11.
This is a list of some of the things my city is doing:
Jersey City
Pat O'Melia, host of radio show "Hudson County's Talking," will be organizing a memorial near the 9/11 memorial fountain on Journal Square at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
At 7 p.m., an awards ceremony will be held at the Landmark Loews honoring five volunteers from Hudson County: Dr. Robert Lahita, chief of medicine at the Jersey City Medical Center; Ron Hammon, manager of C.H. Martin at Journal Square; Jersey City residents Geoffrey Elkind and Debra Munker; and North Bergen resident Bill DeFazio.
The Academy of St. Cecilia will hold "Sing to the Heavens: 9/11 Memorial Concert" at 6 p.m. Thursday at Newport Town Square near the Pavonia PATH Station. The concert will feature the Academy of St. Cecilia Community Chorus and Ensemble, and the community is invited to join them in singing "America the Beautiful." For more information, call (866) 387-0660.
The City of Jersey City in conjunction with the 9/11 Committee will hold a memorial service from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the 9/11 monument located at the foot of Grand Street.
At 7:30 p.m., a candlelight vigil will begin in the City Hall parking lot and proceed to the J. Owen Grundy Pier. Participants are asked to bring their own candles. "Newport Remembers," a memorial service, will be held at Town Square Park, Pavonia Avenue and River Srice South from 7 to 9 p.m. The evening will begin with a candlelight vigil followed by music and prayer.
