Hi everyone,
I have one more ADR for a ts and was going to go to Chef Mickey's but after reading a lot of negative reviews, I want to pick a nice place for a sit down dinner. We'll be staying at AKL and we have a car, so we can drive to another resort. Is whispering Canyon a good choice? I also have a ressie at Concourse steakhouse. Thanks, Linda

We liked Whispering Canyon both for the food and for the atmosphere (read previous threads about the antics there!). But we also liked Chef Mickey's a lot and are returning there on our upcoming trip.

They're both loud silly kind of places. If you want a relaxing, serious meal, skip Whispering Canyon.

On the other hand, don't think you should necessarily avoid Chef Mickey's. Some people don't like it, but lots of others really love it.

The difference between Chef M. and Whispering C. is that you have to get up a lot at Chef M. ... to get all your food, etc. You can just sit at WC. We chose WC as our first night rest. this spring. The waitress brought the kids shakes with the tall straws and that started our trip out with a lot of laughs!!
:-)

We ate at both in January and we definitely prefer Chef Mickeys. The food and the atmosphere were great!!

The food at Whispering Canyon was OK. The table right beside us was a group of 8 preteens that kept yelling "Go Steelers" at the top of their lungs while their parents at the next table NEVER told them to stop. They also ruined all of the ketchup requests. As soon as another family would ask for ketchup they would want it again. A few of the servers were ticked off at them you could tell.

Its OK especially if you have kids. I like Ohana's over in the Poly better. Or even Artist Point in the WL.

I *love* WCC!!!!!!! Its so fun! I would definately recommend that if you want a fun dinner!

I love chef Mickeys too for the character breakfast!

I have pictures of both places if you want, pm me. :thumbsup2

We also enjoy going to WCC for either lunch or dinner. We just have to remember not to get the skillet with the unlimited milkshakes (we eat way too much).

Ok---so, here's my take on WCC---and I'll probably get flamed for this..but oh well. I've been there several times and the last time I went (a week ago) was it for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the food but I always feel as if I'm competing against my servers other tables for attention. We don't really get into the whole antics of it, but enjoy watching other people do it.

The scene: 7pm on a Monday night and we get seated right on time at a small table next to the fireplace in between the main dining room and the back. We sit ........and sit........and sit......and watch our server clean up the large table next to us for about 10 minutes before he even glances our way. He comes up...dripping with sweat....and doesn't tell us what the margarita of the day is (I had to ask), just says "ok...what are you having". So, we ordered drinks and food all at once. *Side note: we asked for water along with my margarita, DF Lynchburg Lemonade, and DD vanilla milkshake* Drinks came out pretty quickly (except the water portion) and we saw the large round table get seated as well as a couple next to us. Now, this large table has obviously been reading the DIS too many times and has memorized the list of "What you server is supposed to do when dining at WCC" and they start screaming at him all the "Key phrases" to get antics. Well, he ends up at their table for no less than 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the table of two next to us is looking quite irritated because they haven't even been acknowledged yet, my DD5 is screaming for water (she was apparently coming down with strepp, which I didn't find out until 2 days later, and was dying of thirst). We politely remind Mr. Server about the H2O factor and he kind of waves us off. 10 minutes later, someone else delivers our salad, and yet another 5 minutes later he comes out with drinks---for the big table---and NO WATER! Once again, someone else brings out our skillet and he manages to find water for us. We eat----he asks us one time, rather rudely if we want anymore to which I quickly respond "NO"!! At this point, our ADR was for 7pm and it's now going on 8:30 and we are just ready to get the heck out of there. We ask for the bill, get it in about 5 mintues, and wait ----and wait----DO YOU NOTICE A PATTERN? Then the woman sitting at the table next to us that had been there before us leans over and asks "Did you get your bill yet? We've been waiting for 15 minutes" I told her we had and thank our lucky stars we're paying with cash and don't need change! Although, I hate leaving $100 in cash sitting on the table, so the lady next to us has another server go hunt down ours---I really don't know what he could have been possibly doing this entire time! I mean really!!!

Now, I know I know that I shouldn't let one server ruin my experience and vow never to return...but it's been a similar situation every single time. Oh well...I'd rather blow $100 at Artist Point anyways!

We LOVE WCC! It was our favorite meal BY FAR last trip. The food at CM was good too, but it was very dirty (crumbs all over the floor etc.) and the service was really slow. We were almost done eating before our drinks arrived. besides the characters at CM, the atmosphere was not very impressive, crowded tables, noisy. The atmosphere at WCC on the other hand was wonderful. Plus, you get to see the beautiful WL. Hubby loved his steak, I had the Johnny B Good chicken pasta and it was fabulous. Kids had the all you can eat skillet and they really liked it.

We LOVE Whispering Canyon. The food was great, the service was great and we left with a smile on our faces and extremely happy - cant wait to go back!

We have stayed at WL the last 3 years and have ate at WCC several times. My favorite is breakfast! They usually have games for the kids and/or parents to play, they ride stick ponies around the room, the waiter got all the dads up one time and was making them do crazy things, the kids LOVED it!!! My DH even liked it, and he is usually the quite type! Chef Mickeys is always on our "must do" list we love all the characters they have always played music and got the kids up to dance around the room with Mickey, Goofy and other characters! My whole family loves this we have always thought the food was good and the atmosphere was great!! It would be hard to choose between the two both have always been great! :rotfl2:  :sunny:
