How is Westgate Town Center?

Has anyone stayed at the Westgate Town Center (timeshare) near Walt Disney Wide World of Sports? How is it? I have been told they don't have any transportation to the parks, are cabs avail, or is a car necessary. Also which Disney hotels are the closest, in case we need more rooms. I am trying to plan a trip for March 18-27, 2004. Thanks!!

I've read some really bad things about westgate on this board, but I'm one of the few who was invited down there (by friends who own at Westgate Lakes). I enjoyed myself both times at Westgate Lakes. I had a smooth check in, rooms were nice, clean, I had a great view both times (I could see both Universal Studios fireworks, and disney's fireworks from my balcony. They had several pools, activities, etc. Because of how others have review there property, I wouldn't spend much money (Because they have great Timeshare Presentation promotions). I would never pay the rack rate.

Having stayed at Westgate Vac. Villas (on shared property w/Town Ctr) several years ago and toured at Westgate Lakes, I would not recommend staying at a Westgate property. The accommodations can be very nice or absolutely terrible. There's too much variation within each property to risk it for my vacations.

If you do choose to stay there, taxicabs ought to be no problem. But I also don't recommend staying offsite without a car. I seriously doubt you would regret getting a car for your stay!

The closest Disney hotels to this Westgate location are AK Lodge and All Stars. There are several other offsite hotels on 192 in the immediate area of Westgate but I can't recall which ones - sorry. It's only about a block or two from the interesection of 192 and Sherberth Road (great back way to Animal Kingdom).
