How is WDW the first week of Jan?

We are finishing up a great trip at WDW. However, I realize if had arrived today and stayed the first week in Jan, the pt. cost would have been crazy less. I mean crazy crazy less.

So, how is WDW from Jan 1st through the 6th? It appears the parks stay open rather late still from the schedule I just checked. Does everything stay open? When do they start to shut down for low season? When do they take down all the Christmas decorations? Do they start taking a bunch of stuff offline for repairs, etc? (Ok, sorry for the all questions... just trying to get a sense of what would be diff from the prior week)

I have a lot more flexibility now at work so I could take the first week of Jan off vs. the week between Christmas and New Years. With the point savings I would easily get a full additional trip to WDW with that switch!

It all depends on when school Christmas breaks fall. This year, it will likely be very busy (where we are in Canada, the kids don't go back to school until Monday January 6th).

I'm kinda expecting it to be busy from the 1-4. After that I don't think it will be too bad

Really busy for a few days after NYD in our experience, but no worse than the days leading up to and including NYD. I think it is probably more crowded when Jan 1 is early to mid week because kids are out of school for the full week. I'm guessing if Jan 1 is on a Friday, then the parks are a noticeably less crowded by Jan 3 or 4th.
