We are going to DL for 4 days. We dont have a specific plan, but we are thinking about this.

One day in Fantasyland and Toon Town

One day in Tomorrowland and Adventure land

One day in frontierland, new orleans, and critter country

one day in California adventures.

We dont know the order of the days, except we think we will do CA on Tuesday, since the main park is closing at 5 that day, and CA is open until 8 that day.

Any recomendations? will these areas be ok to do together? We were thinking of doing Frontierland on the first day, because some of the rides in the other areas were compared to thunder mtn, and i read, if kids do well on that, they will do well on most of the other rollercoasters.

We are not doing the ToT party.

Well ~ we visit each land every day (except for Toon Town ~ we don't make it back there very often) and we hop over to CA Adventure ~ start over in Disnelyland, head over to CA Adventure early afternoon and go back to Disneyland in the evening. You might need mid day breaks (we generally do not take mid day breaks ~ we visit when it's cooler weather and shorter park hours) but even with a mid day break you should be able to do more than 1 or 2 lands per day.

Disneyland is actually quite small, and Cali Adv. is right next to it. You can easily visit every land and both parks in one day.

You could knock all the lands off in one day if you planned it right.

Do you have a park hopper? Once DL starts getting busy in the afternoon, you could do like Momma suggested and go to DCA, to scratch some things off your list there too!

So then towards the end of your trip, you could go back and do all your favorite rides over again!

I'm planning my days a bit like you. We have 2 groups, an "Adult" and "Kids" group. The adults can do whatever they want, but for our kid group we'll be focusing on a land or two at a time. We'll be doing the left side of the park on day 1 (PS for BB, meet Winnie and folks, ride Jungle Cruise, etc etc etc).

On day 2 we'll be doing FL in the morning, then hopping to DCA for the rest of the day (Pixar show, midway games, along with a dinner date with some princesses).

Day 3 will be DCA in the morning (crack-of-dawn PS for Minnie then hop for TSM and the Aladdin show), hopping to DL for Tomorrowland in the evening (I know some of you are like WHAT?? but we have other non-disney plans in the evening so pretty much just the adults will be doing tomorrowland on this day while the kids are hotel bound;)).

Day 4 will be toontown in the morning, and then a "free" day where we hit whatever we feel like (it's our last day:sad1:)

We feel that this will cut down on our walking, and that we'll really get to do everything we want in each area more then once. We also hope that this will make it easier for the Adult and Kid groups to find one another so that the adult(s) that are with the kids can be rotated out. Finally, we'll be taking an afternoon break for naps and want to be as near to the night time entertainment options as possible if we decide to do them.

Honestly I would be surprised if this plan survives the first few hours in the park :). It just goes against nature LOL !

LOL, You know. I am soooo not a planner. I dont need the security of any plan of action. However, my DH is a super anal, analyst, planner, OCD type of guy, and he never flies by the seat of his pants. Adventure is NOT his middle name.. LOL

So while I prefer to let the magic lead us, i know we will stick to a plan....

if he is a planner have him read hydroguy's FP guide.....that will indulge his analness but actually maximise your time efficiency through decreased waits for e-tickets in each park each day :)

I agree about the fastpasses. The lands are very close to each other. You could easily knock out Fantasyland in an hour- and hour and a half depending on the crowds. Toontown will easily be done in an hour too. So you'll want to grab a FP for a ride close by when you start your day. When the window opens to get another FP, you want to know what's available close by to where you are at that point in the day. Study the map at Disneyland.com. Know where the FP rides are in proximity to the lands. That will accomodate your DH with the planning. but it will also be nice to have those FPs as a back up if the pack gets really crowded

We usually plan to start each day in a different land. That way, we can hit those rides while the lines are short and get Fastpasses to use later in the day. Then we'll move on to another land, hit the rides with the short lines and/or get Fastpasses. After a break at our hotel, we go back and use the Fastpasses we've been collecting all day when the lines are often at their longest. This strategy usually takes us all over the park each day.

Depending on what you want to do at CA, you might want to give yourselves the option of more than one day there. For example, you can spend an entire morning doing everything in the Animation building (including Turtle Talk which you usually have to wait for). If you go on a day when Alladin is being performed, you will want to line up early for good seats and then the show is about 45 minutes long (and well worth the effort). If you have small kids, they'll want to hang around in Bug's Land and do all of the rides and activities there.

And don't forget to schedule in some time for Downtown Disney. It's right near the entrance to both parks so you can easily leave one and walk over there. There's a huge World of Disney store that is fun to browse as well as many other stores and restaurants. They often have live entertainment in the evenings and it's fun to hang around and soak up the atmosphere.

Part of the magic of Disneyland is seeing the park- what I mean is that you may not ride everything and see every show but I cannot imagine missing NOS or Fantasyland because that wasn't our planned part of the park for the day.

There are also better times of the day to experience certain attractions; Peter Pan and Dumbo are best done first thing in the morning where Tiki Room and Star Tours can be done later afternoon.

LOL. ;) For me it is not so much about the need to "have a plan" as it is kicking myself afterwards for wasting so much time. People who leave early for work to beat traffic are not "planning" so much as just being smart with time and realizing how getting to work already feeling frustated from traffic is not a good way to start a day. So they make different choices to avoid that.

OP, if you really want to plan then see if you can get your DH interested in RideMax www.ridemax.com.

FWIW here is a link to my thoughts on FP - "Getting the Most Out of FastPass During High Season" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=885132

I think the OP should seriously consider park hopping. Every day. See "Why I ParkHop at DLR" by Hound 109 www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1491961

I second the RideMax suggestion! We used it our first time to DLR when we didn't know anything and it totally helped us get on a lot of rides - even though we went during a Utah Fall Break time and possibly Arizona, too. If we hadn't had RideMax then I don't know if we would have gone back to DL anytime soon.

It made a difference in the number of rides we got on and helped us learn how to use and save FP's. Probably not as well as if I had found the DIS boards before our trip - but it made a huge difference.

It will give your DH a definite plan of what rides to ride at which times and when to collect certain FP's, totally an anal planners dream program! :thumbsup2
