How is this enforced?

So I understand that on the DDP you "technically" cannot use your meals for someone not on the room. I am coming down by myself to visit some friends at the end of September and I am looking at adding the DDP because in the long run it will actually work out to be cheaper for me. My issue is that I do not want to be sitting in the restaurants by myself and with how my plans for this trip are I would never be able to use all of my meals myself.
I saw that Via Napoli is very strict about it but in general, would most/any restaurants let me use 2 of my meals at once even though only 1 person will be registered to the room?

No, they won't. Your card will say ONE adult and you can only charge one meal at a time to your card. That is how they enforce it.

Hmm...I have heard that you could do that. On the WDW Today podcast one of them said that if you wanted to "treat a friend" to dinner that they will allow you to use your credits in that way....a credit is a credit and they Disney care. They actually said that they have done it before. Like you said..it may depend on the restaurant, but I would try to contact the booth at the specific place that you are interested in and ask.

I enjoy that podcast but they give out lots of inaccurate information and don't seem to do a lot of research.

As other posters have said, since your KTTW card will show only 1 person in the room, that is the maximum number of meals that you can charge to the dining plan at any given time. HOWEVER, you can have a reservation for 2 people - use 1 DDP meal credit and the other meal can be paid OOP. We did this last year.

Just want to double check the math on that... are you eligible for free dining? If not, I can't see how it would be cheaper if you don't plan on using all the meals. Dining Plans don't work out to be discounted unless you eat a certain way and in all the ways I've figured, it includes using all the credits.

Regardless, you could look into QSDP if the people you are meeting up with won't be joining you at ADRs. Otherwise, as PP mentioned, you can pay for your meal with your credit and your friends can pay for theirs OOP. Via Napoli is strict on sharing meals for 1 TS credit - they will charge 2 TS credit if you're sharing. So I'm not sure how they would do that if only one of you has the dining plan.

As much as I use the dining plan, I never got this either?? For example, on my last trip, on my last day I had about 3 unused dining credits per peson in my family ( we were on DxDP). I used all of these credits at EoS for 2 orders of sandwiches each (one to eat then, and the other order was for the car ride home). Right there I was able to use more than one credit at a time. Was this because it was quick service?

This trip I will also have about 4 left over credits if we don't decided to try stuff while in world showcase, and while some of those credits will go towards Eos for the car ride home, some may go unused. I would LOVE to use a couple to treat our friend he night of their anniversary dinner!

Anywho, just sayin, it's confusing, especially with my EoS example.

Using the Deluxe Plan as an example: you aren't limited to only the 3 meals and 2 snack credits for the day. If you want to use 4 meal credits and 3 snack credits in one day you can. You can use the dining plan meals/snacks in any combination/order that you want. You are only limited to how many are in your "bank". If you want to use all of your meal/snack credits the first day, you can; however, that will leave 0 in your "bank" for the rest of your stay. It doesn't matter if it is quick serve or table service.

You can't redeem any meal/snack credits for people not on your dining plan.
