How is this acceptable FP+ lovers?

My past experience using FP+ and seeing long return lines or standby lines for rides like POTC is that it seems to come in waves. I would expect that less than 30min after that photo was taken, that line disappeared and stand by was no longer than 15min. (even though the posted wait may say 30min). Later another wave will hit and fill up the queues again at a heavily scheduled FP+ time for that ride.

Sometimes its a matter of being in the right place at the right time on crowded days. If I see a short line, I go for it lol no matter what ride it is usually. If stand by looks short, ill just hop over there and save the FP.

Looks like it was down for a couple hours this morning from ~10-12

That might account for it. We saw massive lines at the fp kiosk at the Jungle Cruise due to POC being down and CM's directed people there to change their fp+ selection as well as a massive line to ride JC- much like this one from people moving from POC to Jungle Cruise. It wasn't long and the lines dispersed.

I imagine there were a bunch of people that didn't get on when it was down that came back, plus all the people that had FP for that time that showed up. When it came back online the wait time was 35-55mins for a couple hours, seems to be going back down slowly. Probably takes time to push all those riders through.

So what happens if you show up 15 mins before the end of your window and you end up waiting in line for ~20mins?

I'm at MK today, and POC's been down off and on the past couple of days. Not a FP+ problem, more like a ride problem. Been stuck on a lot of rides this week!

Thanks for the on the ground update!:) We've been there on days you wonder if every ride in the park is going to go down at some point.

Actual standby time posted to Lines at 12:45 was 46 minutes. Not too bad considering what that line looked like, but just seeing that many people would cause me to turn around and come back later.

Especially if you plan to ride SB and see that FP line
Time for a dole whip and a ride on a runaway train.

Saw this photo posted on Touring Plans twitter account and it makes me shake my head. This is a photo of the FP+ return line for Pirates taken at around 2:15 today.

I don't get how this is a good thing.

I wonder if Disney will survey the guests in that line?:rotfl2:

Agreeing with someone who said this line may look ridiculous but actually goes by quickly. Was at Disney last week and had a FP+ for Toy Story Midway Mania. Line was way out of Pixar Place and I was really upset by it, and standby was the same. Difference was that standby was 130 minutes and we were on the ride in 15. So what if we all arrive at the same time during a window? At least they are getting us on quickly.

Agree, this year we have seen FP lines that LOOKED like this and actually lasted about 15-20 minutes. On the other hand, in June, we were in a FP line for Buzz Lightyear in which the FP line took 45 minutes, and the posted standby at the time was 30 minutes, so there is the potential for longer lines for both standby and FP.

How long was your total wait til you boarded?

We leave in a little more than a week...we've never seen FP return lines like that, so I'm trying to get an idea of how long of a wait we're looking at with a line that looks like that.

Once we got through the first scanner we literally walked on. So approximately 10 minutes plus the time it took us to walk to our boat. Not bad at all.

BTW, if the ride was down the standby line right next to it would have had people waiting.

Also, I don't care how fast that Fp+ line moves, it's terrible that it's snaking out into the walkways causing congestion and bad show.

This.

I encountered a similar line during TSMM's infamous FP+ Only trial earlier this month. The FP+ line snaked around the front of the building in the hot sun before you got to the first set of MB scanners. I have no idea why it took them so long to scan everyone. It didn't appear anyone had problems from the times I could watch the scanner. And once you got past that, there was a ton of empty space inside the building.

Of course, by then they had separated the disabled guests from the non-disabled. The non-disabled were sent to wait in the regular Standby queue and had about a 20-30 minute wait. I was sent in the old FP+ queue entrance and up that side ramp. I ended up having no wait to board because the ADA vehicle was waiting for me. My total wait to ride was 20 minutes: 15 outside in the sun, 5 to walk inside and get seated.

However seeing a line like that has a chilling effect. It makes guests believe the attraction is overloaded and they walk away to do something else. I bet that sort of scene increases the guest complaints. Eventually that's gotta have an affect on park attendance. (I'm patiently waiting for the FP+/MDE fallout to hit park attendance numbers. We just gotta get past all these trips planned before MDE was announced. Summer/Autumn 2015 should be interesting.)

Touring plans twitter account also shows btmrr is a standby walk on - wonder if fp+ lovers get the credit for that one? ;)

Maybe the title of the thread should be changed to... is this acceptable to anyone.

Seriously, why do people with a fp+ get in that line???? If they can come back anytime, why would you stop and say, yeah- this is a great time to go ahead and use that?

If that is the FP line, what did the standby line look like?

It's my understanding that the only people who can come back any time are the ones who had FP+ reservations during the time the ride was down...which in this case seems to be earlier this morning/afternoon prior to 2pm eastern. That line could be people whose FP+ window encompassed the 2:00-2:30 time period (so those with 1:00-2:00pm, 1:05-2:05, 1:10-2:10, etc). Those people wouldn't have the option to come back any time, because the ride wasn't down during their window.

If nothing else, this thread should be bookmarked as an example of how one group likes to disparage another.

What kind of reaction would we get to a thread titled "How Do You Like This FP+ Haters".

There are plenty of people out there who love to report on anything they can use to illustrate how awful FP+ is. If you take the worst example you can find, and present it as if it's the norm, you can make most anything look bad.

Do we have pictures of lines from the paper FP kiosks at TSMM extending back to One Man's Dream? I know that happened because I saw it more than once. Was that better theater?

Please, this is very atypical. It suggests that the ride was down and how many of those were not FP returnees. Lots of people just get in a line like that and then once in the entrance they go to the correct entrance. Get the full facts of what's going on before focusing on the least likely explanation.

Don't present it as typical because it isn't. It wouldn't be acceptable if this was typical but since it isn't it's just a rare occurrence likely due to operational factors. Oh, and on our trip last week didn't see a single ride anything like that and FP+ worked great for us.
