Things are still crazy here..
I just got my power back yesterday after only 3 days as opposed to the six days it took with the last hurricane. If you look at fpl.com, they are quoting October 12th as the day they expect all power to be restored in this area. Brighthouse got my cable tv/internet going about six hours after I called them about the outage yesterday. (TY FPL and Brighthouse)
There are 24 schools that wont be opening on thursday with the rest of the county schools, mostly in this (Melbourne/Palmbay/Beaches) area.. hopefully they will be open on next Monday.
Traffic is unbearable, gas lines are long, ice is elusive.
My work, which is 2 miles down the road has been closed since Saturday.. We can run the entire center off the big generators, I figured I would be back to work 2 days ago...
Called the hotline they have set up for us yesterday, it said that the clean up is going well at our site ??? this place was boarded up very well... I'm guessing the the skylight windows in the roof broke.. They are hoping to have us in there today from 1-930pm (i normally start my workday at 745am). we'll see how that goes.
Just driving thru the city, it doesnt appear to have as much wind damage as it did with the last storm, but the water damage/flooding was much higher. Flooding isnt so bad here now, havent ventured over to Palmbay since the storm so I cant speak for them. As far as debris goes, there are big piles of it everywhere. Was it from this storm or left over from the last, thats a good question.
This is just for Melbourne, if you go a little south of us, and not by much, things get much much worse. Twice now, in 3 weeks time, we have been right at that edge where if the storm was just a little more north, we couldve lost so much more.. I really feel bad for those south of us. As beaten down by these storms as I feel, and as bad as they were for us physically and mentally, I am still very grateful that we have been so lucky.
I really hope mother nature cuts us a break now, I really cant do another one this year. If I have to see the weatherguy say 'this is where the worst of the winds will be' while he is circling melbourne on his map, I'm gonna crack.
