How is the Carousel Inn & Suites????

Hi guys, Well DH just agreed to a short trip to DL during Christmas!!!!! Oh Yeah I can hardly wait!!!! We booked the View Suite at the Carousel inn. We get to go Dec 14-19. Can anyone tell us about Carousel Inn??? We are a family of 4. DH 40 ME ??? DS 14, DD 12. We have been to DL before but it has been a couple of years. I always have the disney bug, and so do the kids. It is just the "older person" that we have to worry about!!!!!! What do we need to do during this time to make it very special? Any help will be greatly appreciated. TIA Denver DI

My son and I stayed for one evening over a year ago.

The best perk of the hotel is the location. It is right across the street from the Disneyland entrance.

The hotel is pretty plain and basic. The continental breakfast was pretty disappointing, not really much there. It was held on the rooftop by the pool. The pool is very small and there wasn't a jacuzzi.

The room was pretty nice though.
If you are going to be at the parks most of the time, it will do.

Oh my gosh - well, if you don't mind a comment from a trip from 1996...

I would describe the Carousel as 'functional' - it does it's job to give you a roof over your head with a clean bed in a good location for a decent price....it wasn't a place with any frills though. I also remember the continental breakfast being a disappointment - unless you can get there early, you'll not see anything of the pastries they offer, just coffee will be left, though as I said before this was a looooong time ago so that may have all changed now.

We've stayed there five times in the last 10 years or so and we won't go past it. Yes we would love to stay at the Grand California but it ain't going to happen! Yes its basic but it is clean and we find all the staff extremely helpful - I've even booked for the actual 50th anniversary at normal rates! And the breakfast has never run out when we have been there!

IMHO, we started to stay at the Carousel in 2000. We got their late after a long flight. We had booked a non smoking room for a medical reason. Granted it was late (which our reservation said it would be), 9:30 pm. They had only one room left, in the back on the 3rd floor (no elevator) and it was filthy dirty. When I asked to make it right, I was treated terrible, I was told if I wanted a better room I should have been there earlier like everyone else. Because it was part of a package and had been prepaid and he wasn't about to give up our 10 day stay. We had to take it or leave it and pay for the entire 10 nights. To make a long story short we had to leave because the room was a smoking room and I didn't want my asthmatic son to be in the hospital for the entire trip. After a long night we found another hotel with a shuttle to Disneyland. It was wonderful ran every half hour to and from the hotel, so it really wasn't a big deal to be a bit farther and the bus loading zone was much closer. Thank goodness the package was booked through a major airline company who applied pressure and we did get our money back but, no thanks to the management at the Carousel. I personally would rather stay farther away then close when it is dirty and the management is rude. I have high standards though when it comes to clean. I don't care about fancy but, I do want it clean. I paid about $10 a night more at the other hotel, but that was without a reservation or discounts other than AAA, I thought it was well worth it to pay the extra. The new hotel also had a great breakfast. Just my humble opinion.

We are planning on staying there next week. Due to my father joining us on this trip we were looking for a 2 bedroom suite. This one looked the best to me for distance, that way my dad can just walk back whenever he needs a rest.
I was just noticing on their website that they have newly furnished rooms and a new breakfast room. I can let you know how our stay was when we get back.

Last fall I went on a fam trip to Disney with a group of Travel Agents. We toured most of the hotels around disney. This one got pretty much the same review from everyone which was....ewww. I don't sell this property anymore since visiting. The pool is on the roof and as stated there is NO elevator (all the way to the top floor, there is an elevator to the first two or three floors however) so if your on the top floor, good luck hoofing it up to your room.
My reasons for not selling it are there are so many properties to chose from that are reasonably priced as well. This one does have location as its prime consideration though.
The property that all the agents were raving about was "The Annabella Inn", it is across from CA and accessible via the shuttle (or a bit of a walk) but it was WONDERFUL.
