How is the Anabella?

Alright, it looks like we may very well end up going to DLR. We are able to get our room, airfare, and transportation for about $1800.00 coming from PA.

My question is has anyone recently stayed at the Anabella in their concierge rooms? I did a search, and most of the older threads seemed to give it negative reviews. Has anyone been there recently?

We would be walking to the parks, as well as the convention center for BlizzCon. I'm not one who is afraid of walking, but am I kidding myself as far as the actual walking distance goes? It doesn't look far on the map.

I didn't stay in the concierge room- we were just in the standard King room and we loved it. Huge TV, really nice and comfy bed, very clean, nice lobby, nice pool, good fridge. The walk was no big deal for us. Just cross the street and cut through the Grand Californian out to Downtown Disney and then head toward the park entrance. Easy breezy- about 8-10 minute walk. We got it for $79 a night (weeknights), and it was fantastic- one of the nicer decently priced hotels down there.

Haven't stayed but I wanted to chime in on the walk.

I think in normal circumstances, many hotels that are not deemed walking distance on the boards are. I think that it is just that you do so much walking in the parks, that the extra little bit (i.e. an extra half a mile) may seem much longer.

We've stayed there for our past four or five trips and the most recent was in late Feb. I like the place, its mostly clean, the layout is unique and the service is mostly okay..(even though not 15 minutes ago my wife had a rude representative on the phone when we were trying to book this weekend).

The walk to Disney is about 15 minutes, you are set in the back of DCA basically, but the walk itself is beautiful as once you cross the main street its a nicely landscaped wide sidewalk path.

You then get to the Grand Californian and cut through there. I love the hotel, but I just can't justify the logic in spending $500+ a night for something I'm going to be spending very little time in.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give the Annabella a rating of 7.9 with the strong points being pricing and cleanliness.

I have researched a few hotels too and that one caught my eye. I am sure you have already looked but if you havent yet check out tripadvisor.com and read the reviews-that helps determine what I would pick based on what I feel is important to me. For me what I read and didnt like about that hotel was hearing about bedbugs -sorry but I cant be in a hotel unless I knew for certain they were taken care of. But then again whos knows maybe they have been taken care of but once I see those words I pass. Some people could care less but not me. Good Luck to you.

The Anabella is a nice "motel" that is a far walk from the gates. I like the pool area and the rooms but I am also a sound sleeper so the noise from the exterior (metal) walkways didn't bother me.
I've stayed at 12 different DLR area hotels and it is one of my favourites but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who didn't want to walk it (the ART route that it is on is really lousy) or who wasn't a sound sleeper.

I really liked the Anabella. The employees were wonderful, the lobby was lovely. On the first floor they have wood floors in their rooms which now seems so CLEAN I can't look at carpeted hotel floors in the same way.

To get the lights and a/c on in the room you have to put a room key in the slot next to the door; helps cut down on wasted electricity of people leaving things on during the day (but the room will be stuffy when you get back).

I have heard really good things about the concierge people there (one is a member of micechat), and when I was very first planning our Sept '07 trip over a year ago, the now-concierge rooms were just special rooms, and I'm so jealous that they are concierge now b/c I want to stay in one but don't like the whole "concierge" thing. Personal philosophy of mine, don't let it bother you.

I would definitely stay there again. Only thing different would be that I will have a stroller for my kiddo. Hubby wasn't even traveling with us on the plane (came in later and left earlier) but he convinced me that having a stroller would be a pain. What WAS a pain was carrying my 35+ pound 3 year old back to the room every night!!!!

Other than that, the walk was not a problem.

My best friend just came back from staying at the Annabella 2 weeks ago and she said it was clean, friendly service and would highly recommend it to anyone. She would stay there again she said. I cant tell you prices but I can say she walked there in about 10 minutes.
