Been to Disney World dozens of times but never to Disneyland. We are going to the D23 convention next summer. Looking at five nights.

Has anyone stayed at Residence Inn Maingate? If so how was it?

It is about $300 cheaper than Paradise Pier and includes breakfast, full kitchen and separate sleeping space for our daughter.

Thanks for any information.

It looks like a Condo Complex from the street (a group of 2 story buildings) an older style of the chain. (As compared to the Residence Inn Garden Grove on Harbor which is a newer multi-level tower version.

Good location across the street from Anaheim GardenWalk on Disney Way.

I have stayed at Residence Inn's before, but not this one. But for the price, IMHO, you get more than staying at the PPH. If you feel the walk is too far, they do have the ART Shuttle service, and almost the same walking distance as the PPH.

I really like this Residence Inn. It's not too far from the parks, and if you're used to walking within walking distance. They have a nice breakfast, and if you're there in the afternoons there's some food to munch on, too. I've visited a couple of their rooms (love the penthouse suite - for bigger families), and my sister-in-law stayed there. It worked well for them.

Thanks for the info. Walking not really an issue. We walk about 22,000 steps a day at Disney World but it is good to know about the shuttle.

We stay at Residence Inns a lot when we go away so we are very familiar with the chain. The room is 500 sq. feet so we are not on top of each other.

We like this RI. It's a little older, but the staff is very friendly and helpful. They will even do your grocery shopping and put perishable items away while you are in the parks.

One benefit, you don't have to wait for the elevators like the Paradise Pier (big complaint about the PPH). They don't have elevators. If you need to avoid stairs, just ask for a lower level room.

I think the biggest complaint I have seen about that specific Residence Inn is the breakfast room, since most people try to eat before park opening at the same time and the indoor tables fill up quickly. But they did add outdoor seating, and you can always take the meal back to your room.

Been a while since I have stayed there, but I remember the breakfast room being of fair size and they served a real breakfast. We never were around for the evening BBQs, but that is a nice add. We had a loft room with kitchenette, fairly spacious, but the loft area was not very private and noises from below carried up. It is a little bit of a walk, but not terrible. With our kids older now, we just prefer to get two rooms on Harbor.

Harbor?

thanks for the other info.

Never have stayed at one with evening BBQs. May have to try it.

The elevator complaints seemed bad for PP. Will remember to request lower level since no elevator.

The reference to Harbor is "Harbor Boulevard" and usually the Hotels/Motels between Manchester Avenue and Katella Avenue, which is what most folks call the "walking distance" group. In fact, based on how you measure, some are closer to the main entrance plaza than the Disney owned ones.

The Residence Inn Maingate on Clementine is one long block east of Harbor, which adds a bit to the walk.

Thanks for explaining that. Will look to see what is there also.

Thanks for the info. Homewood Suites seems like it would be a much better option as it is closer to both Disneyland and the Convention Center where the D23 Expo is. I booked it and will discuss with the family. Rate was a bit more but the convenience factor may outweigh it.

Here is a marked map from the lobby area of the Residence Inn Maingate to the Main Entrance Plaza. It also shows some of the properties on Harbor Blvd. The walk is right at 3/4 of a mile.

Hope that helps.

Cool map. I'm not OP but can I ask...from the route that is drawn, is that the main entrance to Disneyland ? And is that the only entrance? (e.g. any further up on Harbor...or on the other side from Disneyland Dr) If so, this gives a great picture of each hotel to where to actually enter Disneyland.

NO, the path is a current pedestrian entrance on the west side oh Harbor and Disney Way, and has an "arch" , but since it is by the old parking lot entrance (now Toy Story Busentrance) it kinda gets lost. The proposed plan has it going away for a new Shuttle area. The "New" entrance is closer to the Residence Inn. It is on the east side on Disney Way behind the Grand Legacy.

So it would be shorter to stay Residence Inn than Homewood Suites? We also need access to the Convention Center

I would say the properties would be equal in distance overall, though the Residence Inn is next to the Anaheim GardenWalk Shoppertainment Mall with lots of places to dine as options.

Ok thanks for the info. Tough decisions to make.
