How is Nyquil an over the counter med?

Seriously. I've been trying every combination of cold meds I had in the house for 2 days with no luck. Even my prescription cough syrup wasn't getting the job done. I was miserable. Achy, stuffed nose, miserable cough & sore throat, etc. I mustered the energy to brave tourist traffic with the kids by myself for meds earlier today. 30 mins ago I took a dose of Nyquil. Now I feel perfectly fine, other than the extreme sleepiness and a very mildly irritated throat.

This stuff is either a miracle drug or the devil's work. As long as it means I get sleep tonight, I really don't care which it is. :thumbsup2

Did ya get the "green death" flavor? :lmao: Dennis Leary does a riot skit on Nyquil, pretty hilarious. My DH swears by it, but I hate it. Knocks me out for an hour or so then I wake up with the jitters and can't go back to sleep and feel all weirded out.

Hope you feel better :thumbsup2

My DH swears by the "green death" flavored Nyquil. He won't use anything else. I think it tastes like white lightning, but it works great :thumbsup2

My grandmother used to take a dose everynight. Don't ask me why, I couldn't tell ya. Didn't they change the formula a few years back?

I know people who swear by it when they're sick. Me, personally tried to take it twice about 30 years ago. It wouldn't stay down lol. Fortunately, I rarely get sick. My sister uses Nyquil too.

As for grandma taking it everynight, it used to have alcohol in it, so it probably helped her fall asleep.

Because it is a great way to put yourself to sleep if you have insomnia!:thumbsup2

They did change it a few years back. It doesn't work (for me at least) anywhere near as well as it used to. I think it has a slightly different (and much less effective) ingredient in it.

The "green death" Nyquil is fantastic. Plus it has an added benefit. If your kid is willing to drink it they must be really sick and not just faking it. :rotfl2:

Ohhhhhhh...I love me some nyquil!!

Every once in a while, I get a tickle in the back of my throat, right when I'm trying to fall asleep. That will drive you crazy!! I bit of Nyquil is the only thing that will do the trick.:thumbsup2

Now, at my house, we always have 2 bottles.....and they're labeled so I can tell which is mine. DH has an appalling habit or swigging his straight from the bottle. No thank you, I'm not sharing that.

Yes, she has always had problems sleeping, still does. She is the one that told me it isn't nearly as effective now. Someone needs to post that Dennis Leary skit from youtube, it was sooooo funny!!:lmao:

shhhhh, on the nyquil before they put it behind the counter and I have to sign my life away to get a bottle!!!!

Though I joke that I need ID to buy it but not hard liquor. And I avoid the taste by just popping the gel caps. It's the one way I am always guaranteed a solid 9 hours of sleep.

NyQuil makes the cold worth it! :lovestruc

:lmao: I actually look forward to getting sick so I can take it. It's heaven in a bottle to me...wait, that's Vodka but Nyquil is right up there:banana:

I swig it from the bottle also. And no store brands... only the real thing. When I'm sick it is Nyquil in the night and Dayquil in the daytime. DH hates it but it works for me.

I love Nyquil. I can take it even though I have blood pressure issues. It's odd but the Dayquil is off limits though.

I think it has 10% alcohol content. I don't mind taking it if I have to, but for GOD'S SAKE, NEVER buy the off brand. It tastes disgusting!
