How is NWA with flight changes? We already had one!

I booked our flights on Tuesday. We leave DTW at 6:40 AM and have a nonstop to Orlando. The original departure from Orlando was 6:55, nonstop.
Today I got an EMail saying that flight had been changed to leaving at 4:45 (i.e. leaving WDW before 2!) and having one stop in Memphis--and only a 30 minute turnaround there. I don't know if we would have changed planes, but that's not much time.
So I called....the latest flight leaving MCO is now 5:20, but it's a nonstop, so we changed to that. Still, instead of leaving at 4 we now leave at 2:20. Bummer! We have a hopper with 8 days--we are at the Poly so we can still do MK that last day (although it's EMH in the AM and will get crowded) or maybe Epcot--just have to time the leaving right.
Is NWA big on doing stuff like this? I picked the earliest departure from Detroit and the latest from MCO.

Yep. That is the ONE big problem with booking airline tickets out so early is the way they change the flights. NWA has done that to me out of DTW more times than I can count. Right now I am very leery flying NWA because, according to Saturday's Free Press/News, it looks like the pilots are going to strike.

I am booking all my trips this year (MCO in April, June and Aug, San Antonio in July) on SWA.

When is this strike supposed to happen? If they do strike, what happens to ticket holders? I've never been through that. Do I have to make other arrangements or does NWA ticketing help me out?
SWA, as of Tuesday, was not booking in July.

Does Northwest have any other flights you can choose from?

So long as coach is not sold out they should let you change to any other flight of your choice at no extra charge.

If you don't seem to be getting anywhere with an alternate flight you want, ask for a supervisor.

If you have "one stop" and the flight number of the second flight is the same as the flight number of the first flight, almost always it is the same plane.

Here is the article from 2/4/06 Detroit Free Press about the NWA pilot strike. I work with a spouse of a NWA FA and talk is they will most likely go out.

But what happens if they do go under? Do people get their $ back? If we lost that $985, we'll have to drive :guilty: .
