How is New Years Eve at the parks and resorts?

I would like to know what special events take place on New Years Eve. I am a long time Disney veteran who is thinking about taking his family to Universal for the first time this year (Dec 29 - Jan 3) and would like to know how last years New Years was? I am planning on staying at the HRH. Any advise would be welcome!

Well the parks are open until 1am. The atmosphere in both parks is great but especially in Islands. Both parks had DJ's set-up playing popular music, you'll have Express so you won't have to worry about lines. Islands had a fantastic fireworks display on the lagoon.

There's also a separate event that costs more money.. that might include live performances, food, alcohol, etc.
