How is MK with no Legacy FP?

I was there this past week. Everything with legacy was wonderful. Both MK days with fp+ were terrible. I am a former CM and I am aware of the commando strats for getting good fp results and this wasa miserable experience. On friday we managed 3 rides, and were only able to get 2 fp+ both at the end of the night when my kid was already cranky. I managed to suck it up and wait 75 min fpr SM because I would be damned if I didn't get to ride it once this trip.

The fp+ kiosks were confusing and the poor cms operating them knew even less than I did. FP+ return queues were backed up.

I agree, they may very well be mistaken on this one. And I think there are a lot of people thinking like you...If I am going to get less, then I might as well spend less on it.

Or not at all. A lot of people are to the point of re-thinking their vacations. I'm sure a whole slew of people will now point out that there are "others" waiting to fill the void and we "shouldn't go if Disney makes us so miserable" and we're "just complainers who know we will go back anyway." But, bottom line... the numbers if DISsatisfied guests (pun intended) are growing. I, personally, am reconsidering a major DVC investment in addition to re-considering my next WDW vacation. You can dismiss me as a negative nelly naysayer, but Disney risks alienating a pretty substantial chunk of their customer base if things continue to spiral downward as we have been seeing recently.

I'm with the camp that thinks that Disney will, at some point, offer the "For just 100 dollars more, you can upgrade to 5 FP+ and choose TWO experiences from Tier One" deal. Ugh...

Pssssst.....they don't want you to see Harry Potter, the new Harry Potter or the 3 new rides Universal will open before Avatar opens. That is not speculation, BTW. :)

Don't you mean the three new rides Universal will open before the mine train opens?

Although I would feel somewhat "violated" to be forced to shell out even MORE money to get the same level of service I have become accustomed to, I would prefer to at least have the OPTION of being taken advantage of in this way and be able to get those additional FPs if I choose to spend the extra amount. As it stands now, even if I use "Benjamins" to light my cigars, I can only get three FP+ and those are further limited by tiers.

And how many of us DISers have played a part in spreading the word about how wonderful Disney is and convince many others to take a trip. Without even thinking hard I can come up with 8 families that ended up taking Disney trips because of the rave reviews from us. Well, guess what I'm saying now when someone asks me about Disney. It isn't rave reviews anymore.

Exactly. There have always been people who come back from Disney and say "never again" because of the long lines, etc. But if they also lose their "base" and are getting negative word of mouth from the "cheerleaders" it could eventually have a real impact.

We went to dhs today and had a conversation with offsite guests who were there today and at mk yesterday. The available times were so bad yesterday at mk when then went the kiosks at 10 am they didn't bother to do fp. By bad they said everything was 5 or after for the most popular and they tried lots of options.

Today at dhs, they hit the kiosk after rd at about 9:10 and got toy story for 1. We got paper fp for 10 at that time. Rnr were at 3:30 when they tried and just kept toy story at that point.

They said at mk, it was basically rope drop or standby for a longtime time.

And this is supposed to be the slow season. By spring break and summer, offsite people will be able to experience the Disney atmosphere, but not much else.

By then, the only "atmosphere" they may be experiencing will be eating pixie dust farts. pixiedust:

LOL! Sorry, but I just crack up every time I see your username "Peanut Giggleface".

That's just too cool. :)

I'm a longtime lurker, but I wanted to come out of hiding to share my recent experience at MK. My husband and I are annual passholders and generally frequent the park once a week (typically on Saturday) and sometimes twice a week. We have gone on the 4th of July, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, so we are well familiar with crowds and wait times of pretty much every attraction. As passholders, we have been aware of the changes coming with fast pass +, and have been waiting anxiously to give it a whirl (though honestly we've been able to do the things in the parks we like to do using the legacy system just fine.) We have a 2 year old daughter and don't use baby swap so we never go for the big rides lately, but pretty much the princess experiences and smaller kid friendly rides.

We arrived at the park yesterday (Saturday) at around 9am. The park opened at 8, and we knew the fast pass+ system was officially a go in MK. We had seen the kiosks for some time in town square and around the park, so upon park entrance we went immediately to town square to get our 3 fast pass+ secured. I went up the the kiosks in front where there were approx 7 CM with no wait at all, but then was asked what resort we were staying at and when I replied I was a pass holder, I was told we needed to go to the back of the town square theater (back where the princesses used to meet) and where there were easily 50 people in line. I immediately felt like a second class citizen. I mean, already resort guest have been able to go online and book their fast passes, and now they have no wait at certain kiosks but the other AP holders and one day guest have to wait in monumental lines to secure theirs? My husband waited in the line while I took our two year old to see the characters near the flagpole. While waiting in line he texted to tell me our number one choice for a fast pass+ (Enchanted Tales with Belle) had a return time of 5:40-6:40 and this was a little after 9AM! The castmember said there was nothing earlier available. (This was extremely frustrating since on the legacy system a FP for Belle was never available and our very first time we could get one for Belle with the new system was 8 hours from then!) Since we live locally and have a small child, our park visits usually are only for a few hours before our child's naptime, so we had intended to leave after lunch. So we were unable to get a FP for Belle.)

Our 3 choices ended up being Buzz (for 10:30), The Rapunzel side of Fairytale Hall at 12, and the Little Mermaid Ride for 3:40! And all told my husband stood in line for 15 minutes to make the FP+ selections.

On a 'normal' Saturday (and even on abnormal days such as the 4th of July and Christmas eve) we have EASILY been able to see both sides of Fairytale Hall, Ariel in her Grotto or Tiana or Tink, Belle, and ride Mermaid or Pooh or Peter Pan, Small World, and Buzz, by making the most of the morning and implenting Fast Passes the moment we were able to obtain ones (not to mention talking Mickey who was not connected to the system.) We never felt obligated to stay later in the day because of Fast Pass times, nor the need to run first thing to a machine to stand in line and plan out our whole afternoon.

This Saturday, with our three less than optimal choices and times given, we set out to do the usual 'walk-on' rides our toddler likes, only to find we had to wait 4 rotations to get onto the carrousel, and had to wait 25 minutes for It's a Small World.

We were also quite let down that the MDE app failed in providing us accurate character times. Buzz Lightyear was supposed to be meeting at 10am, and he wasn't there at 10 and still wasn't at 10:30. No CM around to ask why. Also we headed to Tiana's garden to line up about 10 minutes before the App said she was due to arrive, only to arrive and see her waving and leaving as the meet and greet was over.

I will add a last bit that just added to our day, and I find a bit interesting on top of everything else that is going on with all the changes. We had an ADR for Liberty Tree for lunch at 12:40. We arrived a few mins early, checked in and waited to be called. And waited. And waited. (With a hungry and tired toddler). Well after 45 mins of waiting, I finally asked how much longer it would be, and after a few CM checked computers and talked to eachother, it was determined that the CM that checked us in actually didn't check us in. So yeah, we had to wait another 10 minutes to be seated. On top of that and all the INSANE lines allover the park at kiosks and even in FP return lines, I was frustrated beyond believe. The CM sought to right her wrong by providing me with a paper 'no strings attached' Fast pass which stated it was good for any attraction (I can upload a picture of it.) The only restriction is for height restrictions apply for certain attractions.

After our daughter's nap (which was much needed after a much delayed lunch and all) we decided to take our paper fast pass to Enchanted Tales with Belle. We were told by two CM that 'even though it doesn't say it, you can't use that here.' Well after telling our 2 year old she was gonna see Belle (and she knows the look of the outside of the cottage, she burst into tears when we were turned away, and we weren't about to wait 70 minutes in the line. Well, I headed to Town Hall because I was frustrated. I explained to the Castmember at Town Hall that we were told we could use the paper FB for ANY attraction we wanted and the CM's wouldn't let us in the fast pass queue for Enchanted Tales with Belle. The CM went inside to talk to others only to come back and tell us that was correct. We couldn't. He explained that Enchanted Tales is a 'character interaction' and not an attraction. I showed them on their very own MDE App how Enchanted Tales with Belle is listed under ATTRACTIONS, unlike other 'character interactions' such as Fairytale Hall and Tinkerbell's Nook which are located on the app under "Characters." He simply said he was sorry and said he would let a manager know that we think the classification of Belle on the app needs to be changed. He also informed us that the paper FP we were given needed to be used that day (so we couldn't leave then and come back and use the FP another time. ) Frustrated and beyond, we decided to go use our paper FP on Haunted Mansion which my husband loves and which had a very uncharacteristically long 45 minute wait earlier in the day. We got into the FP+ queue with our pass and STILL HAD TO WAIT 25 minutes. With a FP!!

Needless to say, our first experience with FP+ has been a monumentally bad one. I have a very sour taste in my mouth for the whole thing, and I'm honestly sickened that our days of being able to go to MK for 4-5 hours and have fun with our toddler may be a thing of the past. The standby lines are now unbelievable, even for small rides, and the FP+ return times are hardly accomodating. And I cannot imagine what it will be like during Spring Break and Summer. :sad1:

Thanks for the feedback, ferd and welcome to the DIS as a poster :). I would suggest sending your post in an email to Disney so they get honest feedback about their + system.

This is all just so depressing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is wondering what I'm going to do at the parks all day if I'm only allowed 3 FP+. We are a Rope drop through fireworks family, and I just don't see how I'm going to manage to fill a 12 hour day and keep everyone happy with just 3 fastpasses.

My children don't appreciate "atmosphere", they don't smell roses, and the idea of them sitting on a bench and "people-watching" is laughable.

I hate to say it but we may start spending our afternoons at the dark side. We could go to Disney for rope drop, ride standby until about 11ish, eat an early lunch, schedule our FP+ for 12, 1, and 2, and then spend our late afternoons, evenings and nights at Universal. If we stay on site there we can use our FOTL privileges at anytime during the day, right?

Wow. Like Mad said - you've GOT to tell that to Disney.

That's crazy. I've only had that happen twice in my entire life and BOTH TIMES our meals were comped and one time they even gave us a $50 gift certificate on top of it. Neither of them were Disney.

Wow! If this continues, WDW can kiss their local AP customers good bye.

As for the park crowds - you made a very poor choice to go to MK on Saturday. Because of the holiday weekend Saturday was an "8" crowd day, and MK was a park to avoid. I can imagine your frustration.

Ferd's detailed (thanks Ferd!!) post two above - I won't quote it since she was very detailed and it was very long - but that begs the question for me...

Where are all these people coming from? The parks are flat out more crowded. As Ferd noted, and we experienced three weeks ago ourselves, even the Fast Pass lines are slow. They aren't instant-on anymore generally speaking, they are just faster than Standby. I suppose some of it could be chalked up to people holding up the line because they don't understand, but there just seem to be more people. What we experienced was backups INSIDE the queue, even after the bands/tickets have been scanned/collected, we were still backed up waiting.

So perhaps Disney has raised the number of fast passes they hand out (maybe they used to give out 4,000 per day for Ride X, and now they give out 8,000 per day, whatever), and that's why the Fast Pass lines back up. However, because they are limiting the fast passes to 3, all the Standby lines are reported to be longer than ever, even on "value season" days.

Where are these people coming from? Has WDW suddenly become the only worldwide vacation destination? It seems that way...

Spring break looks like it's going to be a bit insane.

It happened to us at Tusker House a few weeks ago - we were seated an hour late and they blamed it on a "computer glitch". We were not offered any compensation, just a "we'll seat you next".

We have been going to Disney since 1990 (every year or twice a year). We have Annual Passes that expire in July, after that, who knows. Lately we plan our Disney vacation in connection with a Disney cruise (getting ready for #6 this summer).

As others have said, we too have recommended Disney to lots of friends - even helping them plan their vacations. Somebody asked me last week about helping her plan a trip and I said I was unsure about going right now, and didn't recommend it if they planned on staying off site.

We know of several other friends of ours that go frequently (every year or every other year) and they usually stay off site. I fully intend to let them know about the problems people staying off property are having right now -- laying it all out for them.

We have friends in the Orlando area with Annual Passes that we can no longer meet up with and just go to the parks.

If Disney doesn't know that Annual Passholders and those guests that are staying off site affect their bottom line, they need to think again. Word of mouth for people visiting Disney is huge. Bigger companies than Disney have failed.
