Those who went recently, how was the food at Jungle Skipper Canteen?

I have ADR for dinner but debating if I should keep it.

What did you order and what did you like or dislike about the food?

Thank you

We went this past April and we all loved it! It is so cool inside and the food was unique and delicious. My dad had the steak salad, my mom had the sustainable fish, and I had some type of chicken noodle bowl. We all loved what we got and as an added bonus the place was almost completely empty so we were able to really relax and take a break from the crowds and noise. Don't delete those reservations!

I agree with PP. We had an ADR there and we were pleasantly surprised. I had a duck noodle bowl and hubby had the Char Siu Pork (he loved it- i tasted it- it was great). Boys had mac n cheese. To start we had the shu mai dumplings and they were incredible- we should have had another order. I had the kungaloosh for desert and the boys had some molten lava cake- which was a huge hit (it had hidden pop rocks). We are planning on eating there again in November- it was v fun and quite relaxing since it wasn't crazy packed and the theming made you feel quite removed from a theme park. Honestly, we liked the food the best in all of MK (way better than BOG). It really is a hidden gem.

Thank you both.
@got15. How was mac n cheese? Since it's just myself and my adult son, I was thinking of Char Siu Pork and mac n cheese.
I read in one of the review that Char Siu Pork was really tough so I was having second thought......

The mac n cheese that the kids got was w/out the beef mixture (they gave it to us on the side to try). The mac and cheese was v rich and creamy due to a nice mixture of cheese and a rich bechamel sauce. The beef mixture was nicely spiced. I think the best thing that i can equate it to was like a deconstructed greek pastisio dish (minus eggplant and lamb). Kids were happy. Just asked DH- he said pork was good- he didn't remember it being dry- he prob would have complained. We were hesitant going in due to the bad reviews- but so glad we kept that one. We really enjoyed it!

My husband and I ate there a few days ago and loved it. He had the pork and loved it (I wish I had ordered it too). I had the steak and it was really good too. We also shared the mac and cheese and it was nicely spiced and creamy. We also shared the kungaloosh for dessert and I thought the cake looked dry but it wasn't and there was a nice light banana flavor to the dish. The restaurant itself has a lot of fun props, definitely check out the bookshelf.

I loved it as well! I had the shu mai as my appetizer and the curried vegetable crew stew for my entree.

We will be trying Skippers, I made an ADR when they started letting you. At first I was really worried about the reviews
Thinking of trying the Head on Shrimp but not sure if I will like them, I've only eaten peeled shrimp? If I get them and don't want to eat the heads, I guess I could peel them but it may get messy. \

You don't eat the shrimp heads normally, although some people might try to. The head comes off easily either using your fingers or utensils. Chefs prefer to cook shrimp intact because they feel it has more flavor that way.
DH and I went there the second day it opened as walk ups. We ate in the Mess Hall, but would prefer one of the smaller rooms next time. We researched the back story beforehand so we would understand what we were experiencing. The bad jokes from the servers, to imitate the boat captains, made the meal that much more fun. The menu is purposely exotic and out of the box to fit the venue, so people need to be open to try new tastes. We loved the bread service and dip. The Shu Mai,the felafel,soup.....it was all wonderful. I even bought one of the special drinks with the copper mug- it's metal, not a plastic cup,so I thought it was worth being a keeper.
We would definitely go back. It's the perfect example of how Disney tries to make a meal a memorable experience. Make sure you check out all the decorations and the bulletin board is funny.........
