Anyone have a recent update on I-75? We'll be traveling on I-75 through Georgia and Florida tomorrow night headed to WDW and when we last drove that interstate a couple years ago, there was all kinds of construction, especially in Georgia. Any info?

I-75 in GA between about exit 80 and the state line still has intermittent construction.

There is also construction on the FL turnpike near the 429S Exit.

We've been through there about 3 times in the last couple of months and really never had any problems.

Last August when my family and I drove down I-75 the consturction around that part of Georgia was not that bad, so it will be intresting to see how much progress has been made when we drive down there again this coming August.

thanks :) i'll post an update myself when we get back.

My bets would be placed on next to nothing as I believe GA wants that to be a permanent construction zone.

I can answer a very small part of your question. As soon as you cross the state line from Chattanooga,Tennessee, into Georgia you will hit a short but intense stretch of construction. 3 lanes narrow, and I do mean NARROW into 1or 2. Cloud Springs Road runs underneath I-75 there and the bridge over the road is being replaced and the road underneath it widened. This area is just past the Hwy 41/East Ridge exit and will not last long unless the lanes are shut down or there has been one of the frequent accidents in that stretch. This project will last for at least another year.

BTW, there is some major I-75 construction between the last Cleveland exit-the one with the mother of all fireworks stands-and Chattanooga, just north of the Georgia border. It is a 30 mile stretch where 2 intersections are being upgraded and a new exit being developed for the Enterprise South Industrial Park. It's intense around the sites, which are about 15 miles apart, but flows freely between them. Can be a lot of stop and go depending on when you get to them. They also work on them at night from time to time.

Also, be aware that speed limits in construction areas are strictly enforced and violations are EXPENSIVE. Just ask my neighbor how expensive.

There's some construction in south Georgia, south of Tifton and north of Valdosta. The lanes narrow and speed limit drops to 50. There is also a lane shift or two that tends to pool water. So, be VERY careful if there has been any rain.

I seem to recall some construction on I-75 around Ocala. But, I think most of this was at night. So, I'm not sure how this would affect your travel.

thanks everyone :) we'll be coming from NE alabama and hitting 285 south to I-75. by the time we get to ocala, it should be morning.

Well, we're back! The construction south of Macon, GA, on I-75 is just as horrible as I remembered. It doesn't look like any progress has been made in the last 2 years. The speed limit drops from 70 mph to 60 mph to...i think it was 55 mph and stayed that way for a long stretch. We drove down at night and yes, GA state troopers were out and about. We also saw them with several people pulled over on our way home. Bottom line: expect to go progressively slower as you drive on I-75 south of Macon, GA, to the FL state line. Watch for state troopers, as well as lane shifts and changes.

Thanks for posting that update.

THANKS for the information. So we should not expect any of this construction to be magically completed when we drive to the world in the fall? :)

The I-75 bridge work at the Cloud Springs exit, just past the GA-TN state line that I described in my earlier post is going to require a lot of lane closures this weekend. Per GDOT notice, expect single lane traffice in BOTH directions at different times, some at night, for the bulk of this weekend. From 3 lanes into 1 is going to cause some massive backups. This project is supposed to be finished by 12/09.

My question is were you actually able to travel 55-60?? If so, I don't really consider that a problem. Traffic is flowing, your moving along nicely, no biggy.

Now when you hit those zones and can only travel 5 - 10 MPH, then THAT is a problem.
