It's how ever you hear it in your head. I usually hear Ha-NA-may. occasionaly Ha- Na-me like tsunami. :confused3

I think HANNAME rhymes with ANIME. In fact I can see a cute little Anime fiqure with large eyes named Hanname!

If I am greeted with Hanname however it's pronounced by the greeter I will return the greeting. Hanname. :wave2:

Exactly! The pronunciation part, I mean - the part about big eyed cartoons is disturbing and suggests the need for therapy.

That's exactly the way I pronounce it in my head too.

Okay, I haven't read the "Hanname" thread, but I thought it was a serious thread!!!!

My dd has the Disney Sing along songs, "Flik's Animal Adventure" in AK. In this video, they sing a song called, "Hanname Jambo". It goes:

Hanname Jambo, Hello Hello...Hanname Jambo, Hello.

They pronounce it Ha-NAH-may Jahmbo...so, I voted for number 3 above.

I don't think the OP had this in mind on the other thread....but, DH said he read that "Hanname Jambo" means welcome to our village in Swahili.

Not a bad slogan for the DVC dis, huh??!!!

I voted for ha NA me because it sounded more exotic, mysterious, ha NA me is calling to me.... and I must answer.

I spelled it phonetically to avoid confusion. Notice the "-" between the sylables and the ha-na-May that I compared it to in the beginning. If I wrote it hanname and then compared it, I would have to write natazoo.;) Clear now?

HBC
It was a joke, clear now? ;)

Ah, ya. Not knowing what Anime is I googled it and was very disturbed. Not the image I was having with Hanname. :flower:

And just how is Anime pronounced anyway? :teeth:

You know, I've never heard of this song, but that's EXACTLY the reason I pronounce it "ha-NA-may". I would picture in my head being in AK and likening Hanname to "Jambo". Weird, huh? I must've subconciously heard it somewhere before and picked it up!

Finally found this poll. I like teh pronounciations similar to O'hana. My head still calls it ha - name, though.

Ditto previous poster who said they'd respond no matter how it was pronounced!

That would be your arch enemy...MAMA bwahahahahbwahhahah :rotfl2:

I never said you were my enemy. I've loved your posts! Just don't want you to get too many of them! :earboy2:

Can't you feel the hanname?

I must admit to being a lurker on the original Hanname post - what a riot! I read the whole thing, kept laughing out loud, till my DH had to come see what was up!

We went back and forth on the pronounciation - decided it was Ha-nah-may with the accent on the middle syllable. Can't give a logical reason why - it just felt right.
