I have a day of Thanksgiving week scheduled where we go to MK, stay until about 1 pm, then go to DTD until about 4:30.We are staying at the Poly and would need to return there anyway to get our car to drive to DTD. I was thinking that instead of eating CS in the MK (and facing the crowds) it would probably be less hectic to grab a bite at Captain Cooks. Is the food decent? Am I correct that it would be a lot less crowded than the MK counter service options?

Can't tell you about the crowds Thanksgiving week, but when we were there in August we did exactly what you are thinking of.

It worked out well. It wasn't too crowded and the food is pretty good. I highly recommend the grown-up grilled cheese sandwich. Definately better than fighting everyone at the park.

We thought it was pretty good for counter service back in June. I have seen some posts on here where people didn't think it moved smoothly after it was renovated (maybe earlier this year?). I believe they added computer/touch screen customer ordering. We found it easy and there was no line, but we may not have been there at the peak times. I had a turkey club sandwich twice that was very good and my husband had a pork sandwich that he really liked. They give you chips (they were kind-of like won-ton or tortilla chips instead of fries which I liked, although I think you could still get fries.) Have fun!

Thanks! I know that there would be more options at DTD, but our goal that day will be to grab something quick and start our DTD shopping.

I saw pictures of the touch screens on allearsnet.com. Is it possible to order from a human, for example, if you want them to hold the mayo or whatever?

We had a flatbread pizza there last month and it was terrible

We had the flatbread pizza there in May and it was by far the best pizza on Disney Property...myself I thought it was FABULOUS!! More of an "Italian" taste than the pies at the other resorts and parks. I guess I am a little "spoiled" that way though...my husband's family is Italian.

We found Capt. Cooks to be a quick place to grab a bite to eat and the food was very good...my husband loved the burgers.

I'd say Capt. Cook's is no better or worse than any other resort CS option. If you're looking to be blown away by the food, you'll probably be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a good quick meal without fanfare or the crowds at the park, you'll be more than happy. You also have the option of waiting to get to DTD and eat at WPC or the Earl of Sandwich as well...

Sounds like it will do the trick. We have dinner ADRs at LTT, so I just need something quick to keep the kids from saying "I'm staaaarving....."

We stayed at the Poly and really enjoyed CC's. I thought the Flatbread was really good!! DH had a burger I believe. Another day I had the turkey sandwich, also good. What we really liked were the desserts - Dole Whips and the chocolate chip crossaint which is the BEST!!! We had no problems with the touch screen ordering, if I remember right you can choose your condiments right on that, though I could be wrong. It was never too crowded when we were there, but that week I'd probably try to go at an off-peak time.

I thought the flat bread pizza was really good; that's the only meal I've had there since they reopened. I would prefer to eat there over most of the CS in the MK, except maybe CHH(which is normally really busy at night). I thought it was nice to have the option to eat something other than a hamburger.

Enjoy eating there for lunch on the CS.

All 3 of us really enjoyed our lunches there last week. We had the grown up grilled cheese, turkey club and aloha pork sandwich. All of these were really good and filling.

Our fave CS ... we've tried mostly things on the menu and they've all been between good and delicious.

The pick up area is right next to the screen so it's not hard to grab a real person to discuss your order.

Dole Whip AT our resort....who could ask for more?:goodvibes

I heard missypie that when you touch pad order and then go up to pay, you actually tell them to hold the mayo then. Kind of defeats the purpose of touch pad but that is what I heard. If you want to know more, you can post on the Poly thread under resorts. This will be our first time with the newly renovated Captain Cooks so I am anxious to check it out too! :thumbsup2

the turkey club, cheeseburger, asian noodles all were delish!
the grown up grilled cheese however...DISGUSTING. its hot blue cheese between two pieces of bread. blech. i hate thinking about it. :scared: (sorry if I offended anyone)
its got touch screens where you order, portions are nice and big. service was fast. most sandwiches are served with fries or sweet potato chips.

We really enjoyed CC's last December. Loved the Asian Noodles--yummmmm! Didn't care too much for the grown up grilled cheese(not a big fan of blue cheese). Love the turkey sandwich, too. The touch screens are very easy to use. Our family is picky about what goes on sandwiches, etc. After you touch the screen to order the specific entree, it gives you the option to modify (i.e. leave off the mayo). Each time our food came prepared exactly how we ordered it. There was rarely a line, but there isn't a ton of seating. We only sat down there once. We usually ordered and went back to our room. We loved having such a great and easy counter service available.

Captain Cook's is probably my least-favorite resort CS.

agnes!
