How is August?

We are considering a trip for late August 2007. We live in NJ and our kids don't go back to school until the Thursday after labor day and I know that much of the country goes back sooner.

Am I correct in thinking that the crowds will be lower the last week in August?
Just how hot is it?
Thanks for your help.

Oh it's hot. Not much different than July. The only thing that you need to worry about is the possibility of a hurricane. We went in August a few years ago and the park was closed for 2 days b/c of the hurricane. CM's said that it's rare that a hurricane hits WDW and that it was rare to close the park.

That experience has not effected us, we're going from 8/18 - 8/26 this year. :cool1:

I Have To Tell You We Were There 8/29 Thru 9/11 In 2004 It Was Great No Crowds Or Lines. We Too Are From The Garden State. The Only Thing You Have To Worry About Is The Weather We Were Locked Down For 3 Days Because Of Hurrican Francis. We Had A 2 Bedroom At Okw So We Had A Kitchen. Our Friends Were In A Studio At Bcv And The Had To Buy Premade Meals And There Were Only 2 Choices. But Disney Did Comp Us All Our Park Tickets.

We have gone to Disney in June and August on several previous trips. It will be far less crowded the last week of August. It is very hot in Central Florida in August. However, I am also from your area and feel that if you can cope with the heat in Jersey, you can cope with the Florida heat as well. Go and enjoy!

not an expert like some of these other folks, but we went to WDW 2 years ago for the first time. We also live in NJ(lyndhurst). Went in late August. not too crowded. everyone said it was much worse in mid-august. schools from down south go back earlier then up here. it WAS hot and humid, but August in NJ is like that most of the time anyway. just have to take it slow, drink alot of water, duck into a/c or shade whenever you can.

We were in Disney in late August a few years ago and it was HOTTTTT.
Unbearable if you're anywhere BUT in Disney. There are ways to beat the heat - hit indoor attractions and stay hydrated. If the timing works, I'd say don't let the heat stop you.

We were at WDW last August - and we are from New york - not too far from New Jersey. Anyway, the crowds were wonderful - no waits at all....BUT, it was SOOOO hot - really unbearable. Made everyone irritable, and we probably would have enjoyed ourselves more with larger crowds but cooler temps.

REALLY REALLY REALLY HOT!! I am from Louisiana, now live in Houston and lived for a while in New York and New Jersey. The heat in August in Florida is pretty amazing. I have been in August and the only thing we could do was go to parks early in the morning, leave by lunch, and not go back until late evening.

Thanks everyone for your input. It sounds like it is really, really HOT. But as some of you pointed out, so is Jersey in August. :sunny:
Since it sounds like the crowds are so light, we will probably give it a try in Aug., especially since as the kids get older, it gets harder and harder to take them out of school during the year.

It's super hot. We went last year, my kids were 2 & 3, and we got them the mister fans to keep them cool and just took it nice and easy.

Crowds are down that time of year, and we barely had any wait anywhere.
