Always hated I-95 thru Jacksonville and last # of trips have always used the by-pass. BUt now I'm told there is major construction along the 295 route(??)
Any recent experiences?? Should I just bite the bullet and fight my way thru 95??

We have always found it faster to go straight through Jacksonville, not 295, unless you hit it right at rush hour.

The problem I have is that there are virtually no shoulders to get off in case of trouble, and the signs for I-95 are awful. That one turn (nearly direct left to remain on 95) is a killer. I dread coming to it every time.
The whole route reminds me so much of the Jones Falls Expressway heading into Baltimore---.

I guess it's a peace of mind thing--straight thru is faster but 295 much easier on my nerves.
Unless of course there is a lot of construction??

I use to use I95 through town, until I spent over an hour in traffic because the draw bridge was open on the James River. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Uncleromulus-
When we drive to WDW, my mom also like to use I-295 around Jacksonville. She also finds it less nerve wracking. We tried going I-95 one time and that was enough. You are right about the signs not being clearly marked and we did not see that we needed to turn until the last minute.

However, when we drove down in December 2003, there was construction going on as you exit I-295 to get back on I-95. It also was not clearly marked as to which way to get back on I-95. We ended up going the wrong way and having to find a place to turn around. My poor mom was a nervous wreck.

I am also very interested in knowing how far along the construction is and if there are now signs that clearly tell you which way to go. Anyone driven this route lately??

Here's a bump for you, Uncleromulus. :teeth:

Thanks!!
At this rate, I'll be down and back and can post the information myself:rolleyes:
