How intense is Everest?

I've never ridden Everest because i'm afraid of it tbh. I need to know how bad is it. I'm most nervous for the drop out of the mountain, and the backwards part a little bit. For comparison, Revenge of the Mummy is my favorite ride at Universal, and I can handle that no problem. I also love Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, and love the Phoenix at Knoebels, which has a 72 foot drop. I know Everest is higher, but it seems to be on a turn which can lessen the stomach feeling. A lot of people say how more intense Everest is to rides like Mummy so I'm worried. I need to know, how bad is it? Also, is the backwards section have a "drop" or is it a turn? I thought it's a turn from videos, but some say it's a "drop." Where also is a good seat to seat for the first time? Thanks.

I am not a big roller coaster rider and Everest is the most intense I will ride. The thought of riding Everest makes me break out in a cold sweat which makes me sometimes gives me motion sickness when I get off just because I am a nervous wreck before I get on it. I will tell you taking some dramamine can help and just take some big breaths through the ride. You don't really know how it will work on you unless you try it.

Space mountain is to much for me , the sharp turns and jerking around. Everest is my favorite rollercoaster at wdw. It's smooth and exciting the only jolt is when you connect to the large ramp going up. I learned quick to keep my head back.

If you can handle Mummy, you can definitely do Everest. I think they are actually very similar - thrill wise. My DH had vertigo really bad and he’ll actually go on both of those. He can’t do things like Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster, Space Mountain or any of the big coasters at Universal. The drop is actually pretty tame compared to so many other coasters. Not as tame as Mine Train and Thunder Mountain but nothing like big thrill coasters. It’s a decent drop but honestly not bad at all. I would say maybe the worst part for people could be the going backwards in the dark. But it’s just a few twists and turns, nothing crazy. It’s actually a really, really fun coaster. It’s perfect in terms that it has the thrills but isn’t too crazy at all. I think it’s the perfect coaster to be honest! And like I said, if you can handle Mummy - which has a lot in the dark too!

If you are that nervous, I would recommend watching some videos of the ride with the lights on and off. I’m pretty sure there are videos out there where you can see the whole ride without it being dark. I don’t think any of the seats are going to make much of a difference other than the front row. We rode twice today and we’re in the middle and then asked for front the second time. Maybe pick the middle your first time I guess?

Personally, I think it’s pretty tame compared to a lot of coasters, but it’s certainly one of the more intense rides at Disney World. It’s a pretty smooth Vekoma coaster with no inversions. The reverse part isn’t really much of a drop, it just goes into a turn.

The only way to know is to just ride it.

First time = front row
Just in case you decide once was enough. Might as well do it!
It seems like the Mummy is faster and more dark than Expedition…
I have gone from being afraid of the drop on Pirates as a teenager to getting brave enough to try Screaming at DCA with my eyes closed and immediately again , laughing at myself… and now at 70 I realize my brain does not have that flexibillity to loop the loops anymore. The attraction I dislike the most would be Rock Roller and Splash Mountain . And I have never tried Rip Ride RockIt Coaster. I have enjoyed Hagrids once as a driver of the motorcycle and lots of times in the passenger sidecar… love that ! Will not attempt VelociCoaster in this lifetime. I will still go on Expedition cause it is fun And I know it so well now. Always go front row!

It's a great ride! Unfortunately, I can't seem to handle it well anymore. The only time my equilibrium wasn't off after the ride, was when I rode in the very last car. My Dsis loved EE, but got sick after she rode it the last time. She is prone to motion sickness though. You should give it a try because many people can ride it multiple times with no problems. It's the forward-backward-forward motion and the G-forces that do me in. It may not bother you at all, as everyone is different. Also the view when going up that big hill is amazing :jumping1:

I'm with you on Space Mountain. If I can't wait for a ride to be over, then I must not like it very well. I used to enjoy it, but like you said, it's a jerky ride :scared1:

I love Rock N Roller Coaster.
I love Space Mountain.
I love the Mummy, Rip Ride Rockit and the Hulk at Universal.

Everest has a dip (feels like a dip to me, might be a turn) while you are going backwards that gets some people. I can ride Everest once or twice but that dip is the part that bothers me and makes me feel queasy.

If you can handle most coasters, I would not be afraid of Everest. It's not that bad. But if you are the type who gets queasy, one ride will let you know.

The backwards part is actually pretty fast and steep - at least it feels that way!

I miss Everest… rain kept me from riding it last time I was there.
I agree with others; it’s very similar to Mummy in style, just with a much prettier view!

Always go back between it and RnR for favourite Disney ride.

The perception is completely as individual as "how pretty is the color green?"

I know adults who think it's entirely too intense and I know 5 year olds who can't wait till they meet the height requirement.

If you think you MIGHT like it, do it. Take a chance...thats what thrill rides are all about. Thats where part of the thrill comes from. Don't live life without regrets but regret the chances you take and things you did rather than things you passed on, watching others do and wish you had the pulled the trigger yourself.

Now, if you just flat out know it's not for you..skip it. Thats just asking for trouble.

That backwards part always gets to me too. I made the mistake of riding it twice in a row, never again!

OP, if you have any vertigo issues, skip it, or do it on a day you have nothing else planned afterwards. Don't eat right before riding either!

1st time I rode it, I got nauseous from the ride. A friend of mine, she worked as a respiratory therapist, told me to yell or scream during the ride as I was probably holding my breath.
It worked for me.

Everest is as intense a rollercoaster as I can handle, meaning it's not very intense at all from the perspective of a true big coaster fan. From the ground it seems like there's a huge drop, but there actually isn't. You'll be surprised that the huge upward climb doesn't result in an equally large drop. It's pleasantly deceptive for someone like me who dislikes huge drops. For reference, I cringe and bury my head on Splash Mountain. EE is mostly fast curves, like a grown up version of BTMRR.

I can't handle Space mountain, anything that goes upside down, things that are jerky, but I can ride EE. Try watching youtube videos and see how you feel.

I spent my entire Disney life refusing to go on EE. My DW and I went to Disney in April without the kids and she convinced me to try it. I actually really really liked it. The backwards part was the worst part for me because it drops down and goes right back up which pushes you into your seat. The drop is actually not bad because it turns and is not long.

I’ve been riding it since CM and passholder previews. Some people say they feel like it’s going upside down. I’ve never had that feeling. I find it easier to tolerate than Space Mountain. I know Space Mt goes much slower. But Space Mt gives me a headache from all the jerky motion. EE doesn’t.

I think the first ride is always the worse because there’s that anticipation and suspense.
