How important is it that you get your mail

Mail used to be thought of as important. It's kind of too bad it isn't thought of in that way any longer.
???

I totally don't understand this thinking. Do you think it's kind of too bad there aren't typewriter manufacturers anymore? Or switchboard operators? Those used to be thought of as important, too, but when better technologies came along they were no longer needed. The postal system is a artifact of an era that is rapidly ending - feel nostalgic about it if it matters to you that much, but to make condescending remarks to someone who doesn't want to risk their life for something that is no longer of daily importance to anyone is pretty messed up.

I can't think of any mail that is so important it couldn't wait a day or two. Sending or receiving. If your area is in a declared state of emergency, that alone would be reason enough if say a bill payment was late or legal document delayed.

As a zookeeper, we work every day. Christmas, hurricanes, whatever. But live animals are a whole different ball game.

Mail carriers are highly over paid for the work they do. If the USPS wants to survive, they need to slash executive compensation and rethink the wages being paid.
that's an interesting statement in a thread started by a mail carrier concerned about personal safety while delivering mail in such severe weather. Postal employees at that level are unionized, so it's unlikely there'll be a drop in their wages. I happen to think they're not overpaid at all.

Executive salaries are an entirely different matter.

Our mail was delivered about 3 hours early today. I got a couple catalogs and a bunch of political flyers. Defintely stuff that could have waited a few days, or thrown out instead of being delivered :)

So familyoffive wants to slash their income, and you want to get them all thrown in jail for the felony of mail tampering :rotfl2:? Look at tge bright side: "those" ads can be recycled into free drink coasters, and they're only coming for one more week :).

As long as bills adjusted their due dates, I'd be very open to mail service every other day, or twice weekly.
