How I Survived 11 Days at WDW with a Disney-Resistant Husband **2/20 THE END **

Just caught up.
What a great MK and CR morning!
Thank goodness you rented a stroller.
Love your view from BCV. Can't wait to see photos of the room and SAB.

Oh Trish! I'm sitting here laughing and cringing at the same time! Your description of the walk from the Epcot gates to BCV is so close to home!!

Except I didn't have two kids to deal with - I had DB, who is about 3 years younger than me!! :rotfl2:

So enjoying your updates! I can relate to so many of your comments...my youngest just reached the 48 inch mark this last trip, so he was able to ride Rock N Roll Roller Coaster & the Primeval Whirl. He was thrilled. Happy your family got to experience the Mountains together....special memories :)

Your photos are amazing the colors just pop! Mind if I ask what type of camera you use? You are a very talented photographer. I take so many photos while at WDW- of anything & everything...I love all of the details!

Just caught up on your TR and cant wait to hear more. I think it's really cool how you guys stayed in 3 big deluxe resorts and want to know which is your fav? Dh and I stayed at BC and CR for our honeymoon and I dream to stay at Poly however we are DVC members now so it looks like no Poly for a while!!! Subbing:surfweb:

wow! that's awesome the kids did the slide! Great pics of that! i bet you're glad you folks spent some time at the pool...and you were only 35 minutes after check out...no big deal! awww sorry about the heat...and 1-2 miles to the BC? That's kind of far. i'm so glad Club Cool made them happy again! Love those pics of Declan and the Beverly! LOL! wow...you are a trooper to have one kid on each side! and wow! Great views you had from your room! That's beautiful! I'm glad the sleeping arrangements worked for that one night. Can't wait for the next update!

Oh my goodness, I thought I'd subscribed and apparently not! Between the earache the 1st night and the walk through Epcot to the BC I'm worn out and stressed for you!

It sounds like a wonderful first morning through, fabulous breakfast, great ride karma and some pool time. :thumbsup2

Life is good bad and ugly, I'm glad you are sharing it all.

oooh that journey from the contemporary to the beach club is of nightmare proportions!:scared1: but well done for ignoring the call of the canal! great view from your room! :thumbsup2 for getting such a great view of the Canada pavillion, I can't wait to visit there this year and check out the lovely waterfall!

You are a brave woman to do that walk I alone with the kids-- cannot imagine how stressed and overwhelmed you must have been!

I just found your TR this morning and an enjoying it thoroughly. My DH not a Disney fanatic, either. He tolerates our trips but has made me promise that he would only have to accompany me there every other year.
My sister and I took our kids last summer and thought it would be great to eat at Beaches & Cream until our room at the WL was ready. Bad idea. We had no stroller, and it was HOT. My 3 and 5 year olds were hot, tired, and in NO mood to walk through Epcot to get back to the monorail. It was a mistake I will never make again.

Trying to get caught up here. The MK rope drop pics are CLASSIC!!! LOVE them!!

I am for sure scheduling a CP breakfast on our next trip. :thumbsup2

Great update! I'm glad you all could ride the "mountains" together as a family! Yay! Great job on such a quick swim/dip in the pool! :)

I am glad too that we got in the swim. Now we can say that we tried out the Contemporary pool. Unfortunately, it is not the best pool on property. Perhaps the best part of it is this view:

untitledevent-1181.jpg

But the rest of the pool is pretty sparce on theming and/or beauty.

I love your splash mountain pictures, they are awesome!

Thank you!:goodvibes
Wow!! Sounds like a great day so far!!! :thumbsup2 I love that they rode the two mountains and then went down the slide so many times- it's always great when your kids reach those important Disney milestones!! So exciting!! :goodvibes

I loved that 5 minute walk back from MK to the Contemporary when we were there in November- it is soooooo nice!!:goodvibes

I'm looking forward to the Beach Club!!:yay:

I find there is always someone doing something for the 1st time on our trips. No Disney trip is ever the same...that is what keeps me coming back!:goodvibes

Oh goody! We're here! At the Beach Club!! :yay: I was alternately laughing (with you, of course) and cringing at your description of the walk over. Did you really carry both of them? :worship: Well at least you made it!

Would you be willing to PM me the room requests you made? Where/how did you research this? And one more question... did you/your MIL do online check-in? I always wonder whether that impacts one way or another getting your requests.

Almost forgot.. the Beverly pictures are priceless! :lmao:

Yes - I actually did carry both of them at the same time. Only because I didn't see any other option. A learned a big lesson that day!:upsidedow

As for our room requests, there is a great website here that shows a layout of all of the room numbers. Many of them have photos posted with the views from that particular room.

http://www.parkinfo2go.com/dvc-bcv/

It is a great resource! You will love it as a BCV owner!;)

As for online check-in, because we were transferring in using an RCI trade, we were not able to do online check-in. However, we did online check-in at both the Contemporary and the Polynesian. Worked beautifully! We got the exact rooms that we requested, and we had very specific requests.

While there are a lot of people worried that online check-in will compromise their ability to have their room requests honored, this is not my experience at all. As I understand it, room assignments are made a couple days before arrival anyway.

I was a little nervous with the online check-in because there is no where on the form to note specific room location requests. However, if they are on the original reservation, my experience proves that they are not deleted by the online check-in process.;)

So I say - do it!!! The less time in lines and dealing with things like check-in during your vacation the better!:)

Thanks to the links I was able to read your entire trip report (so far) from start to finish. Your kids are adorable...I just LOVE Declan's hair. Too cute! I can't wait to read more. I'm also excited to read about your thoughts on Beach Club. We have never stayed on "that side" and I would really like to attempt an adults only (Epcot focused) trip.

Thank you and Welcome!:welcome:

This is the 1st time I have included links in my TR, but it is going to be a godsend after I finish the report and want to print off my posts for the scrapbook. ;)

As for the BC, I would highly, highly recommend it!!! Perfect for an adults' trip focussed on Epcot. :cloud9: I am sure it is no coincidence the Villas book up so quickly during F&W!

Yay, you made it to the Beach Club! We have loved staying there. :cloud9: Sorry to hear that your kids were melting down on the walk over. That can be a long walk, even for an adult, in the heat. It was so hot! The frozen drinks at Club Cool can be a lifesaver in that kind of heat!

I must say - that walk over to the BC was not one of the finer moments on the trip! What a miserable way to enter paradise!:upsidedow

What a great view! I am happy you got all your room requests :)

I felt so sorry for you walking all that way in the heat. I don't know how you made it. It probably felt like walking across a vast desert to a distant oasis. I am glad you rented that stroller! My sister had to eat some words the first year we went. She had a "just turned 5 year old" and swore that she was old enough to walk the whole week. It didn't last but a couple of days before she broke down. It really helped all of us have a much better time.

Totally agree with you on the stroller!:thumbsup2

It just kills me everytime I read posts by people (probably without kids) complaining of parents who clog up the parks by carting children over 5 around in strollers. Don't they realize we are saving them from being subjected to whiny, crying kids who are tired of the tremendous amount of walking they would have to do in the parks?:confused3

I will gladly step aside for any stroller if it means less tears and whines in the Parks!;)

quite the walk! Glad you made it over and I love the view of home.

Yes, I don't mind walking myself and obviously overestimated the kids' ability to do this kind of trek, especially in soaring high temperatures. Lesson learned for sure!:sad2:

I felt your pain reading that report!! The August heat just about does us in....I can't imagine doing it with one child on my back and one of the front....I might have opted for the canal:confused3 bless you for being a great mom!!

The view from your room is nothing short of fantastic.....stunning:love:

I didn't last carrying them for long! I am sure I had to keep putting them down to take a break about 3 times during the walk from the bridge to the BC. Oh....I am exhausted just thinking about it!:crazy2:

And isn't that just the greatest view?:cloud9: This trip really spoiled us!

That can definitely be a long trip from the Contemporary to the Beach Club. On our trip last summer I had the bright idea of going from the Beach Club to Chef Mickey's in that way. And that was the grumpiest my kids were the entire trip. Lesson learned for me (and now for you too.)

Awesome that you got you room request for the studio. Hope you are that lucky with your 1 bedroom.

I am so happy to know I am not the only one who overestimated my kids' endurance. It would have been completely fine if I had that stroller. I don't mind walking at all, and to me, it would have been a great little walk. Albeit a hot one!

hi! just found your TR. Can't imagine doing the walk from the front of Epcot to the BC by myself in that kind of heat...let alone with 2 young kids! holy moly! can't wait to hear more! I loved the beach club when I stayed there in December!

Thanks so much for posting, and Welcome!:welcome:

I really don't know what I was thinking when I walked by those air conditioned buses at the MK which would have driven us right to the BC!:confused3

Oh my goodness that is a long walk! And with no stroller! I think I probably would've jumped into the canal. :rotfl2: At least your MIL was already checked in and waiting for you. And that she got the room you had requested!

Yes, thank goodness we had a room once we arrived! That made such a big difference!:)

Oh my, from the highs of loving the water slide at the Contemporary to the lows of dragging two hot tired kids all the way from the Epcot entrance to the BC! I'm so happy that your MIL had already been given her room and you guys were able to cool off and regroup. Your view is spectacular! :cloud9:

That is true isn't it? It probably would have been an absolute perfect day had it not been for my silly decision to walk the kids through Epcot.:sad2:

I take full responsibility for bringing down the mood on Day 2!

OH my goodness!!! I felt your pain through the whole experience! What a nightmare! I am so happy that you all got a chance to cool off in your amazing room---what an excellent view for people from Canada!!! Can't wait to see what you do next popcorn::

It was a great view, wasn't it? Although I am biased, I think the Canadian Pavillion is one of the most majestic pavillions in all of Epcot.

This is so much fun  Enjoying someone else's misery......what a great story.....please continue....................i'm hooked.
Declan is soooo adorable :thumbsup2

While I wouldn't do it again, in retrospect it is actually kind of funny now. A good story for sure!

See...even us veterans who have been to the parks over 20 times can still make some silly mistakes at Disney!

Just caught up.
What a great MK and CR morning!
Thank goodness you rented a stroller.
Love your view from BCV. Can't wait to see photos of the room and SAB.

If I ever questioned the amount I was paying to rent our stroller for the week, that trek over from Epcot just ended the debate then and there. I would have given up our rental car for it at that point!:rotfl:

I can't believe it took me this long to get to your TR. But I'm now all caught up! I have lots of comments but it's taking me awhile to formulate my thoughts.
I've totally been there with the hot, whiny kids! That's why we bring 2 strollers with 3 seats!
I love, love, love the idea of splitting up DME and car rental. Perfect!!!

Amanda

Found your TR a little while ago & am now all caught up. This one is very interesting & honest. I like that. popcorn::

My DH is a Disney resister also. This year he wants to go to Vegas, so that is where we are going. I will be taking my granddaughters in Sept of 2011 & I told him that he could come or not. He does want to go which is nice. He likes Disney after he is there, but does not want to go when I suggest it. Usually I do all of our vacation planning, so I do have some say as to where we go.

Except I didn't have two kids to deal with - I had DB, who is about 3 years younger than me!! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: Didn't you give him his pre-WDW endurance plan to follow in the lead-up to the trip??!!

I LOVE photography!!! I spend a lot of time reading a lot of photography blogs, but unfortunately I have no idea how to use my camera. :sad2: I shoot on manual or AV mode. But I am starting a course in September to finally learn how to use my camera.

My camera is a dinosaur. It is a base-model Canon Rebel XT that is a couple years obsolete. I do have a pretty awesome lens on it though (the 24-70). I plan on upgrading my camera in a year or so once I learn how to shoot manual. The lens will travel with the new camera.

Just caught up on your TR and cant wait to hear more. I think it's really cool how you guys stayed in 3 big deluxe resorts and want to know which is your fav? Kimi

Pick a favourite deluxe resort? That is like picking a favourite child!

The Contemporary is definitely my favourite styled hotel.

For location and resort amenities though, the Beach Club can't be beat! And we were totally spoiled by the space inside our 1 Bedroom Villa. It is hard to compete with that!

But everything considered, it would have to be the Poly. I just love it there! I will chat lots about it once we get there in the report!

But DH actually preferred the BC over the Poly. So it is all individual preference.

They are all quite fantastic in my view!

I am not exactly sure how far it is from the Epcot gates to the BC...I think at least a mile. However, it felt more like 10 miles that day!:rotfl:

As for our room, I truly had to pinch myself looking out the balcony each day and seeing the Canadian Pavillion and Spaceship Earth. So amazing!:cloud9:

Oh my goodness, I thought I'd subscribed and apparently not! Between the earache the 1st night and the walk through Epcot to the BC I'm worn out and stressed for you!

Thanks Cynthia! Glad you found me!:)

You are so right about the rollercoaster of life. There are plenty more highs and lows on this trip. So glad you will join me on the highs and comiserate with the lows!:goodvibes

Ha, ha! Nightmarish is not an exaggeration, that is for sure!

The Canadian Pavillion is beautiful, isn't it!:goodvibes

It was sooooo hard!!!:rotfl:

So sorry you also had a hard time on the walk with the kiddos btwn Epcot and the BC. But I am also glad that there are at least 3 of us on this thread who made the same mistake and can now laugh about it!

Love your TR, can't wait to read more...

Thank you!!!:goodvibes
