How I fight the onset of addonitis

To the OP, keep repeating those four bullet points to yourself, especially the one about not having your initial points paid off.

Myself, I can't say that I exercised any restraint. We started off with 248 SSR points. One year we couldn't make our trips (we had booked and rebooked and canceled twice) to WDW so rather than lose about 120 points that had been banked from the previous year. We decided to splurge and trade them out for three separate nights at the Grand Californian during the F&W Festival. Living only 25 minutes away we had NO BUSINESS buying in at the VGC. However by the end of our third night, I was convinced that we needed to go to the sales office and at least find out what the incentives were because with only 48 units (counting the lockoffs as one unit) we would NEVER get in during F&W with our SSR points.

Two weeks later the points were in our account. We took the money from savings (which we thought was a nice plump account that wouldn't miss it). A little over a year ago my FIL passed away, leaving us a sizeable amount of rental property, but having drained that oh-so-plump bank account with 24-7 caregivers. So we started to apply for a loan on our equity and knowing that we'd have some liquid cash, addonitis hit again. I wanted more VGC points, some at the BCV for Florida F&W every two to three years, and both of us agreed that some VWL points would be nice. Probably 75 VWL and 100 BCV would do. Well the loan dragged out, we were refused, found a lending agent and it dragged on and on. Then it was announced that the VGC was about to sell out, so I called my guide and put 125 points on my Disney Visa knowing that within six months, we HAD to get loan approval.

I watched countless 100 point BCV contracts in our UY slide through the resale market while my 75 point VWL sat patiently waiting. Finally almost a year after we started the whole process, we were approved. But when I inquired about the VWL contract, turns out it had already sold and the listing was not updated. I did find a contract twice that size for only 33% more. So we agreed and I made the offer knowing the money was on the way.

Then that fateful day arrived, when Disney announced that resale points weren't going to be the same as direct points! :scared1: 9 times out of 10 I will use my points in the Villas. But I don't want anyone telling me how I can or can't use my points. I raced over to my bookmarked resale sites and sitting there right in front of me was a 200 point BCV contract in my UY just listed that day! I immediately made the offer since the clock was ticking!

Well, my VWL closed Yesterday, now I'm just waiting for the points to show up in my account. They received my docs and payment on the BCV today and when the sellers docs arrive they will schedule closing. I am pretty much the proud owner of 888 vacation club points spread over four resorts. I am addicted to the one bedrooms and the jacuzzi tub. And we stay over at the VGC on NYE, so that's costing me 76 points just for that one night! However, I am now cured of addonitis. I am done, end of story. Period. Paragraph.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! So if you need to rent some points to get through your trips, I think I'm going to be in the rental market for at least a few hundred points each year! :rotfl2:
