How hot mid-morning?

After our last trip, DH said that next time he wants to take a day off between parks and take time to play golf and just relax more than we did in March. Doing this would mean spending 10 days or two weeks in Florida, which we could only do in the summer because of school.

The plan would be to hit the parks at opening and leave at lunch. Exactly how hot is at 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning? Would you say it is:

a) so hot you start sweating the moment you come out of the air-conditioning and are greeted by a wall of heat and humidity, so hot that standing in line gives you a headache, so hot that even walking around the parks naked wouldn't help, or:

b) hot, but not too uncomfortable. You could walk around at least twenty minutes before working up a sweat.

I can handle some medium heat, but if it is 98 and really humid, even at 10:30 in the morning, I think we will have to rethink the summer.

We do exactly what you're thinking of doing. We now go to Disney every summer for around 2 weeks. It is MUCH more relaxing to smell the roses and not always be running to parks. We always go to the parks in the AM and leave after lunch. It is hot, but not unbearable. I say the temps around noon are around high 80's to 90 (unless it's an unusual VERY hot day where the high is going to be 100, rare for central FL), with the Florida humidity. It's not that bad, and I can easily make it for 20 minutes. We're in NJ, and it's really the same here, just the sun is stronger in FL. The squeeze breeze fans help a lot, especially when in line. That spray and fan are a lifesaver when on a long line, with other sweaty people!! We've been at other times of the year, and still prefer the summer. School schedules also limit our time to go, and we also prefer to go for a longer period of time.

It is not the temp here but the humidity. A real high temp for us is 91-93, but if the humidity is equal then it will feel 110. Then I can set on my patio and drench a shirt without moving.

I don't see the exact time frame when you are here, but being on a golf course after 1:00 can be a chore. Have a big bath towel and drirk lots of water. A plan we use is most courses have a Twilight rate and it is at the end of the day. May only get 16-17 holes in or may finish 18 in the dark, but it is more comfortable then mid day. I have played all th Disney courses, but I rather play courses nearby. Falcons Fire,Remington & Hunters Creek to name a few. A heck of a lot cheaper and more fun to play.

Mid June to late September is the hot period. October is a transion month in that the first part is warm, but the humidity starts to drop. At the end of October the days will be a little cooler and the eveinings are very pleasent. This starts the time of the year why we live here. January can get cold, 35 at night, but the recovery is fast and will be up in mid sxties during the day.
The trick is not to spend a lot of time in the AC before having to be out all day. The body has to make to much of a change and that makes it seem hotter then normal.
Hope this helps some.

Thanks jel0511 and FloridaCat! jel0511, sounds like you've worked out the perfect way to see everything and have a relaxing vacation. FloridaCat, I will pass along your suggestions regarding golf and the courses to my husband. I know he doesn't want to fry in the mid-day heat!

I have lived in FL for 26 year. In summer, "a" is likely to happen at 8am. You walk out of AC and you start to sweat. It feels like a sauna. You cannot go "walking" in the morning, unless you are back by 7am. It's just too hot. I went to Miami Seaquarium yesterday and we were dripping. This was at 10am. I had to keep pumping my son with Gatorade. Even further north it is liek thsi. I lived in Gainesville (north of Orlando) for three years and it was even hotter. I guess because there is no ocean breeze.

Right now it is 74 at 7:59 am. The forecast says 90 for a high.
The dew point is 72. It is going to be hot and humid.
Try following weather bug for a few days and see what you come up with.

WWW.weatherbug.com You have to download this and it is free and virus free. Great little program.
I put in zip code 34747 (for Kissimmee). It gives you up to the moment temp. and decent forecasts. Right now, it is 75 at 8:02 am.

Just curious how high the dew point gets in August? Gail points out that it is currently 72 at 8:00 am. What is a typical August afternoon like from a dew point perspective? As they say, it's not the heat , it's the humidity!!!!
