how hot in august?

I found it to be significantly hotter and more Humid in Florida vs, NJ, but still manageable if you plan for it.

According to www.cityrating.com, the average temp in August is 82.5, and on average, 25 days during the month will get above 90. For Boston, it said the average temp is 71.9, and 3 days on average get above 90.

In Philadelphia (near me), the average in August is 75.5 and 6 days (historical average) get above 90.

So yes, we definitely get hot hot days in the northeast, but we get breaks every now and then and it has a tendency to cool off a little more at night (although there are certainly hot nights also).

Don't expect much of a break from the heat in Orlando during August.

Did I mention the humidity is significantly higher in Orlando (historical average) also? See the following link for city weather info:

I guess I must be crazy, but I can't wait for my upcoming Disney trip, knowing full well how hot and uncomfortable I was in Disney last September!

All the times we've gone in August it was pretty HOT and very humid. That I could handle, we're from Hawaii so we're used to it. But the terrential downpours every day at around 3 pm kinda sucked. But there is alot to do when it rains, queues are mostly covered, and the rain, thunder & lightning don't last too long.

We have a free dining trip planned for August. I don't think we're going to go. We're so not heat & humidity people. Better wait until October when they get a break from school.

I forgot to mention that in my post too. It did rain each of our 5 days there. Two of the days it lasted for quite awhile and the others it seemed to come and go pretty quickly.

Really. Stinkin'. Hot! ...and humid beyond belief.

It is do-able, though. Plan to do rides with longer, outdoor lines in the morning (as early as you possibly can) or after dark. Plan your lunches at restaurants that have INSIDE seating. You might consider doing early mornings at the parks and then going to the pool or inside for a nap in the afternoons, the hottest part of the day. Yes, it's Florida - you'll have rain showers most every day around 3pm but don't let them slow you down; they usually pass very quickly - even thunder storms. If you plan a little, you will survive. Hot Disney is better than no Disney. Right? ;)

Words cannot describe how hot it is! Just keep drinking the H2O! :drinking1 :thumbsup2

How hot you ask? I don't think a word exists to adequately describe how hot it is in August! Seriously. From the moment you walk out of your cool, air-conditioned room, it hits you - the heat, the humdity, the scorching sun! :scared1: By the time you get to the bus stop, the sweat is already pouring off your forehead. Don't bother doing your hair or makeup - by the time you get your picture taken in the park, everyone has wet, slicked-back hair and a red, wet face. And don't expect much relief when the sun goes down. It's still in the 80s at night! Do you get my point? OK, I'll admit, I enjoy the cooler 60/70 degree days of December much better.:yay: But, we went back in August last year after having been through it before and we had a great time! Just keep reading about the tips for staying cool - hit the parks early, drink plenty of water, hit the air-conditioned rides, take afternoon breaks/swims, etc. You'll be fine.:thumbsup2

Pawn, you asked how hot and you got alot of good information.

The weather is very hot and very humid. On the upside is Disney is well airconditioned even outdoors and generally many shaded areas (unlike a certain marine park which has no shade). Wear loose fitting 100% cotton. Wear hats and bring sunscreen or buy it in the gift shop. We drive since we are only 3 1/2 hours away, so we pack a cooler with bottled water and keep it iced down and ready to carry. Visit AK early as it is the most humid. The pool is best saved for night as that is when everyone cools off. Riding one of the boats to MK is a way to cool down. Pace yourself and skip the park hopping as it is too much runnign back and forth though you will appreciate going back to your hotel to shower and change for evening.

Have fun

Yes, it's roasting but remember all the stores and restaurants are air conditioned. I remember walking down Mainstreet in the MK and feeling the spurts of cool air as we walked past the stores. It's manageable as long as you allow yourself to cool off and not get over-heated. Drink plenty of water and perhaps invest in a neck cooler. It's a bandana like thing that ties around your neck and has gel inside that you freeze. They're wonderful for staying cool. You can usually find them at an outdoorsy store like R.E.I. Also, invest in an umbrella/poncho, there were some nasty thunder storms when we were there. I remember them having to close down the WL pool area during our stay because of it.

We are presently scheduled to go to Disney 8/11-8/26. Do you think this is too much time in the August heat and we should go for less time??

we went last year in aug 19-the 26th and were from boone nc it was in the 60 to 70 here and i thought i was going to die when we went the only time i thought it was bad when we saw l-c-a show other then that it was pritty good, you should be ok.:goodvibes

It is hot. Very hot! I have a pic of us with Mickey and my mom asked what I spilled on my shirt...uh...nothing...it was a sweat spot! As long as you are expecting to sweat a lot, you will be fine. Dress for the weather, bring water bottles (we brought single serve Gatorade packets to mix in), and water spritzing fans. We went commando style- all day and into the night with a 5 and 6 year old. We had a blast! Aside from AK, most things are indoors. We spent little time in the heat, mostly just going from attraction to attraction. The lines weren't bad, either! Go! You will have fun!

we've had hot days in march, may and june that compete with our two august visits. You're in the tropics. But our august trips have always been great. Keep water botles with you all day and use a fan with a spritzer.Carry ponchos. We did indoor or wet attractions in the afternoon or did a break. Take a boat ride. The crowds are better. If you can do late evening, that is the best -no sun and the crowds thin out. We made ADRs for restaurants at other resorts, AK, WL and Downtown Dis. and then left the parks to eat, then went back to the parks. Each night while we were eating it poured cats and dogs and was done when we went back to the parks to stay late. By sthe way, the buffet at Ak is wonderful, Sorry can't remember the name, our 15 DD loved it too.

We were there last August and are going back this August. Put it this way, the heat (and it is HOT) does not stop us from returning in August. There are indoor attractions to visit if you get overheated while you are in the parks, and if you get too hot, head back to the pool or over to a water park.

Also, I should say that last August, it was overcast 2 days and then the 3rd day the sun was BLAZING! That made it next to unbearable.

Be flexible with your planning to accommodate for the heat!

And wear sunblock! Nothing worse than getting burnt to a crisp!

We went last August, it was our first WDW trip and it was hot, very hot yes, but totally doable. :thumbsup2

We made sure to pace ourselves, take lots of breaks, drink lots of water. I filled a spray bottle with icy cold water every time before we set out and constantly squirted the kids as we walked.

We purchased the mini fans before we left and took those also.

We headed out and then usually took a break at the hottest part of the day, either at the hotel room or for a swim, rested ate and headed back out for evening festivities.

There were a number of indoor attractions where you can cool off too.

Bring your sunblock of course.

The only thing I forgot to do was bring ponchos :lmao: You will need them if our trip was anything to go by.

Have fun!

I've been the last week on august and i was humid and hot you definetly look forward to the afternoon showers.

Now saying that WDW in august is cool compared to dlc in july. When I was in 2005 it was Hot Hot Hot. :cool2: The temps were 110 degrees. And no afternoon showers to cool you down. I've never left a park beofre 6 pm and I ended up leaving dlc by 3pm. I have a tank top on and had to buy a shirt to cover my shoulders because they were bubbling. When we left i really felt bad for my brother because my nephew was still going strong.

I'll take wdw in the summer any day over dlc

My family & I are from OC, CA and we are used to hot temps in the summers (reaching into the 100's) but nothing prepared us for August in Florida. :rotfl:

Our first WDW trip was in the middle of August and I can say it's do-able. The whole time we were there (8 days), it was 95-100 degrees and 100% humidity. CM's were telling us it was the hottest summer they had seen in years.

We paced ourselves, drank lots of water, and went indoors a lot. We also went back to the room after lunch everyday to shower and relax in the pool for a couple hours and took naps. This really helped a lot.

I commend anyone who does WDW in August. We now do WDW in December & January/February...when it is cool :cool1:

I am from boston and i guess i am used to the hot and humid weather. So when i had to deal with 110 degrees of dry heat it was a little much for me.

we went last August around that time. Crowd level was managable. It was pretty hot but it actually didn't feel as humid as it did when we went in June. Just try to do things early in the morning then take a break at a pool after lunch, shower and have some dinner, then get back to a park for some rides and fireworks. Don't forget to take along that poncho at all times.
