How have the WDW parks fared the hurricane?

I was just wondering if anyone heard how the parks weathered the hurricane? I'd really hate to be in their maintenance department about now.

Also ... what do they do with the animals at AK? You can't exactly say "Here Kitty Kitty" to get the lions in a safe cage ... then there's the tallness of the girraffe's, etc, etc.

Only a single backstage building suffered any structural damage, and horticultural damage was reported as 'minimal'.

All the animals at AK are trained to respond to a specific audio stimulus, which is unique to each animal (one has a whistle without a ball, one has a tympani (recording, I would guess), etc) and that is used to get the animals to come (for routine vetinary care, some feeding times, as well as situations like hurricanes). I'm not exactly sure where the animals go, but I'd assume there's a safe structure, built to accomadate them

They've had a TV program about the "behind the scenes" areas at WDW.

I remember the footage of the buildings for the animals. They've got probably some of the best and safest structures for animals - they could easily rival any top zoo.

The buildings looked like they were made of concrete blocks and mortar. Pretty destruct-proof. Each type of animal had its own building and plenty of room. And the giraffes building was tall enough for them.

I wouldn't worry at all about the animals at WDW. Now, some zoos may not have fared that well and individual peoples pets either.

If you go to the part with the petting Zoo, (Rafikis Island I think) you can see some of the special buildings from the train on the way there, the cast members usually explain that this is where the animals go if they have to leave the park.
