How have the passenger numbers been lately?

Just boarded the Wonder. 325 passengers on board!! Yes you read that right. One dinner seating and one show per night. Crew everywhere and definitely outnumbering passengers.

Wow...I knew numbers were low but I had no idea they were *that* low. We're supposed to be on the Wonder next week, I'm curious to see how it will compare (if we even make it on the ship). We already got notice from Concierge that we may not get the dining rotation we requested due to the low passenger count resulting in them consolidating rotations.

The Wonder will be sold for scrap at the end of April if it stays like this

Have you seen the prices of cruises and amenities? Cruise fares, and Palo and Remy prices have increased. DCL will be fine. The cruise fares are probably 50 to 75% more expensive than just 4 to 6 years ago. While they were giving people 25% FCC, they pretty much raised the price of sailings by that much in just 2 years.

Thats not to mention they were already making a pretty hefty profit beforehand.

Yes, we had 1 dinner seating at 7 for everyone. There were at least 2 rotations though. Dining rooms were empty. Crew said 700 were supposed to be onbord today's sailing.

It’s just a customer number reflecting the new shot required for the January 13 date. I assure you, it didn’t look like that before that date. Not everyone can schedule it for kids especially the younger ones in time. It will be fine in a few weeks.

Not only the vaccine requirement but the sky high covid numbers and how so many who are vaxxed are still getting it. Sure, this variant is more mild than some others and the original covid, but no one wants to pay all that money to end up in quarantine on deck 2.

The only reason we were willing to PIF for our March cruise is that based on the numbers graph for South Africa, where omicron originated, it appeared to shoot straight up and then just as quickly drop straight down. So I had faith that by the time March rolls around, covid numbers should be quite low. In addition, our March cruise is a WBPC sailing and there are no more PC cruises to reschedule to in 2022 or 2023. The only way we’re missing this cruise is if Disney cancels it or we get covid.

Yep. We had to push to March like a lot of others so kids could be vaxed.

My social media page group nearly doubled for the sailing that came before 1/13 deadline/requirements. So very very many stated they needed to move their date to ours because of that requirement. Our group was 500 at the end. I’ll bet the 1/2 Fantasy was just about the same? Did the Fantasy 1/15 have a bunch of people say they had to rebook or cancel once the new requirements came through?

Sure we lost a few a couple of days before sailing earlier due to Covid contact exposure and just a few to kids contracting it from school outbreaks. But mainly we grew in those last couple of weeks as people “moved their vacations to this week and are so excite to join”.

If that rule/guideline/… had not gone into effect the numbers would be about the same. And actual Covid numbers have been going down but not all areas, but deaths are up. My MIL died this morning, she had 1 shot and Covid on Christmas Day. She seemed to get better but hard to say that didn’t contribute. It’s a weird world right?

As soon as testing, mandates, and masking are gone cruises will be back in full swing. I think DCL knows that. They're just hanging on for now.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I’m getting on the Wonder’s first sailing of the year out of New Orleans today- if I make it on board- l’ll post how “crowded” it is.
We are on it too! So far with all the delays and crowds it doesn't seem like a low capacity cruise lol but I'm sure it will look like less on the ship 😉

We're also currently on the Wonder out of NOLA. I'm pretty sure my lunch server said around 750 scheduled to be on board (unclear how many actually made it on). So, there are two seating times still, but only two of the three rotations in effect. Boarding was a mess but I think that was due to it being the first Disney cruise out of that port for the season and them being both unfamiliar with the protocols and having some sort of issues with the customs screening.

I take it as a good sign that things are on the upswing. There were a lot of things working against the cruises the last few weeks, but I'm hopeful that with the big Omicron surge seeming to be subsiding, they'll start seeing passenger numbers continue to go up. I'm planning to enjoy the reduced crowds, but I do also feel for the crew who are being impacted by having so few people on board.

The 1/28 Wonder sailing (the last out of Galveston) has 730 passengers, and it sounded like quite a small number turned away at port so hopefully that concern is becoming less common.
