How Has US Airways @ MCO been lately?

I just flew out of there on Nov. 16. I checked my luggage curbside. My mom lost her e-ticket so I stood in line with her to check her luggage, which took about 20 minutes. We then stood in line about 15 minutes to get through security. Everything went very smoothly. We flew out at 1:10 p.m. on a Friday.

Just flew US Airways to MCO last week and it was the same as in the past. The curbside check in had no line and security line was shorter than some times I hve traveled. The security guy, with a name tag listing the same company as Boston airport, did look at our picture ID and checked names on my print out of me E Confirmation. We had two kids and no one asked them a question or for any ID for them. All in all I was surprized how easy it was. Actually, it was too easy, I hoped for better security and precautions. A few minutes wait is worth it to me for peace of mind. Actually the flight attendants were more jumpy than the passangers. A childs balloon popped while in flight and I thought the flight attendant was going to flip out! Her being nervous made me more nervous as I thought she must know more than us - so why was she so nervous on our flight. We all look deeper into each action, that in the past we would of ignored. It is a different world and flight experience in that regard.

We flew USair from PHL to MCO last week. We checked in curbside on Sunday 12/2 and there was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly, the family in front of us of was chosen to have their bags checked by security, the line inside, whoa...alot of people but it seemed to be moving.
The security check to get into the gate area was slow, but they seemed to be very careful, which to me is good. My daughter is 14, she did not have to provide ID in any airport.
Our flights were both packed, 3 seats across on both sides of the plane (felt like a sardine)
both left on time and arrive a bit early each way.
I know others have complained about USair, but we found the flights to be uneventful and everyone was courteous.
Leaving from MCO we were one of the last people getting on because we we were in row 6, we were picked to have our carry on luggage searched. This made my daughter nervous that the plane would leave without us, because they were making the call for final boarding, but the security person and the flight attendant both assured her that they would not leave without us.

helenk, or anyone else who was chosen to have their luggage opened and searched:

how much time did it take you from the moment you stepped into the airport until you were able to board the plane?

i am trying to anticipate the maximum amount of time new security measures might take at MCO, especially in the scenario where your luggage is chosen to be searched through.

If your luggage is chosen to be searched at the GATE, they will not leave without you!! If it is not done in a timely manner, the flight will delayed until the amount of luggage checks have been completed:D

Just returned today on USAir. We curbside checked, the skycap brought a cart right up to the trunk of our rental car as soon as we pulled in. The security checkpoint was no line, walked right through (they did pull one of my bags for an explosive check). They did random bag check at the gate, we were not picked (I did get pulled out of line in Pittsburgh when we were going for the bag check). Both our flights were on time. They are now serving a crappy snack mix instead of pretzels or peanuts.

Regarding the child's balloon, in the past I have seen them requiring them to be deflated before boarding. I'm not sure why they allowed it.

We arrived at PIT about 7:00am last Saturday. The line was about 10 minutes. Security seemed tighter here than in Orlando. They pulled my laptop and the case and did an explosive swipe. They wanded my Mom even though the beeper did not go off. Then we got to the gate, they called the people for random bag checks, I was luckily not picked, so I thought. We were in the back of the plane, so we got up and stood near where the line is because we knew we would be called first. That's when I got pulled out of line for the random bag check (after they check the people the computer picked, they just random pick). Moral of the story - do not get up early to get in line! They went all through my bag, made me turn on my laptop, wanded me and then let us get on. By then they were calling row 15.

We were chosen in MCO for the random security check on November 3...we tried to check our luggage curbside, but we were told we had to be searched. We were taken to a seperate USAir ticket counter. It took about 5 minutes in line, and then they checked us in, took our bags, and sent us over to a little area where there was a table set up...they actually just sent our bags through this huge xray machine. The man said we were good to go, and we left. No one actually hand searched ours...until we got to the gate to board. Then our carry-ons were hand checked...and I mean thoroughly! Every ounce of everything was checked. I was glad to see this happening. We weren't afraid to miss the flight b/c this was being done right at the gate.
