How Hard to book?

My family is planning a trip in April 2022. My husband and I just bought into DVC a month ago and we are going with my parents and my 26 years old twin brothers. We just booked Old Key West, our home resort, for April 26- May 3 but we would really like an AKL 2 bedroom Savannah view room. Do you think that would be available at the 7month mark?

That's really not a busy time for DVC and AKV is a large resort. I think you stand a very good chance. You might not get a 2BR in Jambo but Kidani should have availability. You were smart to book your home resort so that you have something reserved. Just be ready to modify online when your 7-month window opens.

Awesome thank you that makes me feel better lol. yeah i read that tip about booking my home resort first not long ago and i'm glad i did! for right now though i have to call member services to book since i bought DVC through resale and they said there is a problem with modifying online if you bought resale and have to borrow points. hopefully thats fixed by september but if not i have no problem calling member services

I own at AKL and at 7 months there's a good chance of getting a 2BR Savannah at either Kidani or Jambo. This is especially true if you're going to book right at the 7 month mark. Inventory doesn't usually tend to drop until 2-3 weeks after the 7 month mark. Even then at a non-peak time you can usually wait list or stalk and still get the room.

From January 2022 through April 2022, the Samawati Springs Pool at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, Guests staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village may enjoy the Uzima Springs Pool at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House. You may see and hear construction noise while this refurbishment is underway, but you should not hear noise from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00 AM. We apologize for any inconvenience.“

thank you for the heads up i'm ok with going to the other pool. never stayed at AKL so i'm good with whatever pool

I agree with others that it should be available, but good to book OKW and modify if available later (especially because people are anticipating booking to be harder in the next year between people who had to delay trips because of the pandmic and the 50th anniversary).

You may already know this, but Jambo's 2BR are all lock-offs, meaning the second bedroom has a regular queen bed + a pullout sofa (since they're one 1BR and one studio put together). Kidani has dedicated 2BR (with two real queen beds in the second bedroom) and an extra bathroom!

I would think about changing the OKW booking to two or three bookings. If one of the AKL nights isn't available, it will mess up the whole thing. I'd rather be able to at least change 2/3 bookings. Also, I like split stays, especially all adults. For a trip this long, I'd try three hotels, but I admit I am crazy.

If it's all available, then you just cancel the other two bookings and modify the one for AKL!

Here’s a link to a ‘resale borrowing IT glitch’ thread https://www.disboards.com/threads/resale-owners-can’t-borrow-points-online.3821633/ apparently it affects some, but not all attempts to borrow. So you could try modifying online while you wait on hold for MS if AKV is showing availability @ 7 months if you’ll need to borrow more points to get the AKV villa.
My wild guess (knowing nothing about IT) is if they remove the 50% borrowing limitation the glitch will go away because it wasn‘t a problem in the past & my theory is that whatever coding fix they did to limit borrowing created the glitch
AKV is one of my home resorts, I hope you get your villa & enjoy staying there. If at Kidani, I’d book a dedicated 2 br. (for the 2 ‘real’ beds in the second bedroom) and put in a view request of lower floor Sunset savanna view.

@RoseGold i'm totally fine with OKW if i can't get AKL and knowing my mother she would not be happy with having to switch resorts, but thats something i'll keep in mind when its just a me and my husband trip in the future

@sndral that makes sense, i really hope they do lift that restriction soon. not that i need more then the 50% now but originally 2 more people were going to come so we would have needed a 3 bedroom and wouldn't have had enough with that limit. I will for sure try for Kidani, thanks for the lower floor suggestion!!
