How hard to book Wish MV for a first timer?

I was reading some posts on here earlier and its going to be me and my wife's first DC and we where wondering if anybody had a guess on how hard its going to be to get on the maiden Voyage.

I don't want to disappoint you - but in all truth that's going to be almost impossible. Due to the extreme demand that will surround Wish, they've divided Platinum up in to 25+, 20+, 15+ then the 10+ Platinum before Gold, then Silver, then the general public.

I would be very surprised if everyone on the maiden voyage wasn't 25+ or at the least 20+.

Sorry!

Does anyone have a clue as to how many Platinums there are with 25+ DCL cruises?

Give it a shot but don't get your hopes up. If you don't see anything available when your booking window opens, keep looking every day to see if any rooms open up due to cancellations. Cancellations are less likely with the MV than for other cruises, though, because a nonrefundable deposit is required and because the people who book MVs tend to be really gung-ho. Some people will eventually cancel, though, as that is life & things happen. It's just going to be tough to be lucky enough to catch an available room when it pops up. If you ever do see an available room, grab it asap online & don't fuss over the room type, etc., or slow the process down by calling in before booking. Assume that if you don't book it immediately, someone else will, because that will probably be the case. But again, that is only a scenario that would occur if you're very lucky, so don't get your hopes up.

Enough at least that DCL felt they needed an additional tier above those with 20+

A certain Disney Cruise blog is undertaking a Twitter poll asking which Platinum tier people fall into, I can't see the results until it closes later today (the only other way is to vote, which as I'm not Platinum will invalidate the results). They are running another one asking which CC level people are, and thus far Platinum is the clear winner with 34% of respondents claiming to be that level.

Two things contribute to a very high percentage of Platinum cruisers on DCL. (1) Children get status for cruises parents pay for, so many young adults are Platinum before they even book a single cruise by themselves; (2) Membership is by # of cruises, regardless of whether you sailed with a special rate (e.g. Florida resident, restricted heavily discounted last-minute fares), so it has a big fan base among Floridians who will sail multiple times a year because they are just a short drive from the port and can be flexible on when they travel.

I am slightly more optimistic that the maiden won't fill up entirely with Platinum, because some will balk at the non-refundable deposit and price tag, some already have cruise plans for next summer, and some will prefer to wait for Disney to work out the kinks. But to get to first-timers? Not a chance. The number of people who are Gold, DVC (an enormous group), or silver (likewise a huge number) who have priority is far far too many for there to be anything left over by general booking on the maiden voyage. And due to that non-refundable deposit, seems very unlikely you could pick up later as a cancellation.

Hey fellow Disboarders, let me piggyback on this thread (sorry op) and ask you this:

10 cruise platinum.
What are my chances? in %
Give it to me straight.

We're Platinum 10+ and might try for the DVC Wish cruise because chances are slightly better.

If prices are reasonable, I'd guess the 10-14 Platinum chances are slim. If the prices are ridiculous even by DCL standards, there's a much better chance.

Curious if you saw the final results of this poll

Tier 1 Platinum Florida resident here (not part of the poll mentioned above) who will not be booking the MV as it conflicts with the Greek Isles cruise on the Magic that I will be on. I will be calling on the 17th to book another date.

(2) Membership is by # of cruises

And honestly, there's the problem. While I don't necessarily have a problem with # of cruises, I feel like # of days at sea should play into it too, kind of like the airline segments / miles strategy. I have a friend who's got 17 cruises, but all 3 and 4 nighters. We're waiting for #10 in January, but I've already been on almost 90 nights due to the length of the cruises we've been on.

Oh well. The Mouse didn't ask me... :-D
