I am looking at buying in. I really like the looks and location of the BCV much more than SSR. The ease of buying directly from Disney has me wondering if I should go that route, but on the other hand, I am pretty sure, we would much prefer to stay at BCV.

We do not travel at peak seasons--ever. Our favorite times to go are early Feb and early Dec. Otherwise maybe Oct or low times of March or May.

So, at these times, if we were to buy SSR and want to trade into a 2 BR Sun-Thurs at BCV, how likely is it that we would be able to reserve in that 7 month window?

Thanks.

Slow times at DVC are not the same as slow times at WDW in general. Because BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts it can be difficult to trade in at popular times. You mentioned early December and October. I would venture to guess it is very difficult to impossible to get into BCV in early December without the 11 month advantage. That is THE most popular time for DVC because of the low points/night and the Christmas decorations. October is also quite difficult (although not quite as bad) because of the walk-in value to the Food & Wine Fest that is held at Epcot throughout October and early November.

May should be doable. March will depend on when spring break and Easter holidays fall, but again, could be doable if you reserve right at the 7 month window and/or use the waitlist.

In all cases I would reserve at SSR at 11 months and then try to switch over at 7 months just to be sure of a reservation. If you will be happy to stay at SSR if the BCV does not come through, then things should work out. If you will be unhappy or frustrated because you cannot get into BCV in December, then you will be better off buying there. As DVC brings on more and more members, reservations at the smaller resorts will be become more and more difficult for those who do not hold it as their home resort.

Agree with mikesmom. Just want to add that early February and May shouldn't be a problem at 7 months. At least it isn't right now.

Early December at 7 months will be a problem for you at all of the smaller DVC resorts (BCV, VWL & BWV). IIRC, there are already waitlists for some days in early December for VWL & BCV. I think there are still some PV rooms left at the BWV, but don't know for sure. I'm almost positive that all (or nearly all) of the standard view rooms and guaranteed Boardwalk view rooms are sold out for December at the BWV.

October and March could also be trouble for you.

As mikesmom says - if you won't be happy staying at SSR for your early December trips (or anytime your 1st choice isn't available at 7 months), buy BCV and plan to reserve when the 11 month window opens.

Best wishes -

Thanks guys, that is very helpful. It sounds like my best bet is keeping an eye out for BCVs resales then. Really not thrilled with that SSR location.

Just an FYI, that you CAN buy BCV direct from Disney too, but you would need to go on a waitlist for it there too. The advice I would give is to get on a reseller's list AND Disney's list.

Good to know Diane! I wondered with this whole ROFR thing what they did with those they bought themselves. I called today and asked if I could buy BCV from them and was told no. But, after I get my info, I will call again and ask about this waitlist idea.

Thanks for your info.

We purchased our BCV from Disney in April 2005. We were on a waitlist for about a month for 150 points. We tried to buy a contract from TTS, but we were ROFR'd. The good thing about buying from Disney is you will get all the current years points, and you can use Disney financing. Good Luck !!!

We got VWL at the 7 month In May with no problems.

Our home resort is SSR. We went last March to BWV no problem booking at all. July was Vero beach also no problem. Wanted two studios for this July at BC and they did not have them available but it was no problem for the WL.
So I say if you are flexible about which resort you may want to stay at then you should be fine.

keys2kingdom JUST got a 150 pt BCV contract direct via DVC as an initial contract. It IS possible...you just have to get "tough" sometimes.
