How hard is it to buy non-SSR through Disney?

My DH is becoming more and more amenable to buying into DVC. :woohoo:

So, I'm investigating my options to see what the best course of action is for us. We do like the WL, so I was thinking of buying a resale. If we were to decide to go through Disney to do this, what are the chances of being able to purchase it in teh next two months or so? Also, the current price is $92 a point, right? Are there any incentives associated with buying at the "older" resorts? Can I use the shareholder incentive?

Thanks!!! I hope to have a new "home" soon!

There are no incentives when buying the "sold out" resorts...it is simply $92 per point.

I spoke to my guide last week, and he said that DVC has points to sell for all sold out resorts except for BCV. If you are flexible on your UY, don't be surprised to have your points by the time you finish the phone call. If not...the wait will not be long at all!!

Thanks, Beca!

My DH and I are really leaning towards VWL. I plan on calling tomorrow to see if I can get the ball rolling (of course, DH hasn't completely given the OK, but that's just a detail!).

you could call and be all set. It is a better setup going to DVC directly because there is no ROFR and you also get no closing costs.

Hi there!

I just became a member over the holidays and took my first DVC trip at the end of January. I bought a resale at OKW for $74 a point for 150 points.
Closing costs were $450.

Jerry Sydow can help you thru the resale process. He is at the Timeshare store (you know the ones who Sponsor this site). Also 1-800-550-6493.

ROFR is not that big a deal....(that means that you have to go thru Right Of First Refusal---Disney can buy the contract if they think the price is too low)

OKW was WONDERFUL! I can't wait to go Home again!

Good Luck!

VWL is the only sold out resort I would ALWAYS buy directly from Disney. I mean resale prices hover around $90 and then you add in closing costs, buying from Disney would actually be cheaper plus you get the 05 points. But if you want a small contract and are not already a member Resale would have to do.

On other sold our resorts you do get more of a price break resale, but I would still punch the numbers. So many forget to factor in the closing costs(if buyer pays) and the value of available or stripped points, when comparing price vs the $92.

It all depends how you define better. I have purchased both ways in the past, and when re-sale saves me $15pp including closing costs, for the same product, well lets just say that, that is how I define better!

I said the same thing when we took the tour. Within 10 minutes DH was ready to sign and we hadn't seen the rooms yet!

I blame it on the :wizard: :stir: pixie dust and magic of Disney...it is in the orange juice they offer you when you walk in. A magic that just puts the pen in your hand! :stir: :wizard:

Soon you will be answering your phone "We're going home in 9 months and 2 days!" (TG for caller id or everyone other than DH would think I was nuts!) :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Oh yea when you start talking in lingo is bad to, DH laughs at me when I say DVC!

It was really easy for my DH and I to buy VWL from Disney - did it a couple of weeks ago. We called, our guide said something like, "Ok, I know you're not interested, but I have to say this..." Talked about SSR for a few sentences, and then looked up points for us for VWL.

And yes! It was a way better deal then going resale! I've been keeping tabs on the TSS resales, and they're going at about $88-90 for VWL. Add in closing costs, 05 points, and prorated dues, and it's a no brainer (and hey, not having to worry about ROFR is pretty valuable, too).

He basically said, "Ok, well October Use Year has the most points, so I'll see if I can get you them." Put in our paperwork, and it went through a few hours later. We got a call the next day saying that we had our points and could start booking whenever we wanted. Just returned the signed Mickey's and dated Palm Trees last week.

He told us that it was a good time to buy, as the point cost is going up ($95 on March 31 I believe). He also said that we were lucky that we had a short phone call - turns out we got the last "section" of points in October Use year.
