How would you split up Poly?

Alright, you made me go look at the point charts because I was like, what?!? So, September 1 BR resort view is 5 points cheaper at PIT than RIV. Every other season is more points at PIT.

That said, I know you had a great time at your September trip to Poly, so if that is when you plan to stay, all the more power to you. Those points will go further.
Man I love this! I wanted to go look, then I got sidetracked. Thank you for doing my dirty work for me.

Didnt mean to frighten you, I was surprised too and waiting for someone to correct me 🤣🤣 i looked at September because that was the cheapest and I like cheap September haha. I wonder why they did that. Maybe bcuz kids love poly and theyre in school, it was pretty dead in September. Riv and PIT are the same in May too for my room type! I like May September and december. Thank you guys these posts are making me learn things I didnt know

So, if I were you, @Girlstar30, knowing you and your wife had a great time at the Poly this past September, and I know you want direct points, but have just been debating where and how much, I look at the Poly point chart, and I see that most points for 1-week in a 1 BR resort view in PIT is 496 points. I often take that number and divide it by 2 or 3 when thinking about what the ideal number of points at a resort would be. Dividing it by 2 would be enough points for every other year and dividing by 3 would be enough for every 3 years. I actually think 160-200 points is a pretty good amount for a direct contract at PVB.

I'd look at it like this.

With 160 points, I've got enough for a 1 week, 1 BR trip once every three years for every category except Travel Period 7 (Christmas/NYE and Easter).

With 200 points, I've got enough for a 1 week, 1 BR trip once every three years for every category except TP view during Travel Period 7.

And, you've got a lot of resale points, all of which can book PVB, so that gives you even more flexibility. You can use 1 or more years worth of your direct points and then try to supplement with resale at the 7-month mark. Or, maybe you decide you want more PVB power in the future and either buy more direct before PVB before it sells out or buy resale PVB.

Hopefully those are some helpful thoughts.

This is great way to put things into perspective. I think sometimes the focus gets on just buying the minimum to get a blue card and that shouldn't be the only consideration. As we have all seen DVC can have changes that effect things over time and the only guarantee we have is our home resort priority. So it should always be considered when spending so much money.

You scared me for a second, at first I thought you were saying the average cost of a 1BR at Poly is 496 points per week LOL

A week every 3 years, its like you dont even know me 😪

But for reals this is very helpful because I will def be going there every other year, as much as id love 200 points its too expensive for us unless there's a major sale which I doubt it. And im glad that expectations are being managed because math is not my thing and tbh I never really looked at the point chart to study how many points i would need 🤣

But even 2 bedrooms are possible 5-6 nights every other year and that makes me really happy because as much as my family drives me nuts, it would make me really sad not to have the option to invite them.

And I checked if it would be possible with preferred too and it is because, well ive learned that no cheaper views are guaranteed even at 11 months

I would study this. Look at various scenarios.

I did too what did you mean by 496 points and please correct me if im not right about being able to go every other year for 5-6 nights in a one bedroom during the first three point seasons

You'll need that for a 2 bed though. 😳
Thankfully for me I'm not planning to do 2BRs at PIT for a week. My original plan was just to use my RIV points for 4-5 nights at RIV and then split stay with Poly maybe in a TPV for 2-4 nights and do that twice a year. Again alternating Poly with AKV. If we have to skip one of the biannual trips and do a little staycation at VDH/VGC instead for a night or two to regenerate some points I think we'll be okay :P. Most of the time we should be in a 1BR.

Dizam good thing I like split stays this is redonk
Yes. My scenario is way way different than yours. I was researching and buying a contract specifically for 2 bed stays. But imagine my shock when I was comparing a 2 bed at Boardwalk vs a 2 bed at Poly. I almost spit out my drink! As you know I bought BW. (im not recommending that to you) I think it's important to look at what you want from that specific contract before buying to avoid any disappointment in the future.
