How hard/easy is it to add 2 nights to an existing reservation?

My family currently has a reservation for 5 nights in January using the Stay, Play, Dine promo. I think my daughters have almost talked my husband in to adding 2 more days. I am waiting on his final answer but was considering just going ahead and adding the days now and then removing them if I have to. Not sure how easy any of this is. I already have dining and fast pass reservations. Would those change? Any thoughts would be appreciated! :)

It has become very difficult to do. Disney now requires that the full time frame you want has to be availble. So in your case you can not just add or remove 2 days. A new 7 day reservation needs to be available. You have to cancel your existing reservation and rebook a new one if available.
Your ADR's will be fine

Or, in a worst case scenario, could you make another 2-day reservation at the same resort? You would run the risk of having to switch rooms though after two days, I think...

As Hopefully posted, you cannot just add or drop days from an existing reservation anymore. There has to be availability for the entire dates you want to book. It would be a completely new reservation so you would have to cancel your current reservation. Also, in your case, there would have to be availability under the SPD offer for all of the new dates.

If you are willing to forego the SPD offer for the additional two nights, you could book a room only reservation. If you are able to book the two nights with the exact same resort and room category, you could note you have a continuing reservation and request to stay in the same room. If the two added nights are before the start of the package you can go to Guest Relations at a park or Disney Springs and pick up the tickets up to 10 days before the start of the package.

I don't understand. If the play stay and dine promo rate is available for her room type and resort for all the nights she wants, why can't she modify the existing reservation?

I would just call and talk to a CM direct. I've found that they are much more willing to work with you over the phone, depending on which one you get. They also have the ability to change things on the back side that you can't change yourself online.

It's easier to add days (assuming there is availability) than to remove them. Don't add extra unless you are sure you won't need to cancel them.

Thanks for all of the input! I think I am just going to wait for DHs answer. I don't want to mess up our current reservation. When (fingers crossed) I do get to add the days I will definitely call and talk to a CM. Our first trip I added a day after the fact (didn't have any discount package-I was so new.) and the CM was NOT helpful but that was 10 years ago and have had wonderful CMs ever since. I have been on the Disney website and have tried to "book" a reservation for 7 days and there is availability so that makes me hopeful. I hope he makes up his mind soon. :) I am thankful we get to go for 5 days but 7 sure would be nice. :thumbsup2

This:thumbsup2 I can honestly say that I have never had any issues adding days if there was availability, just did it on our trip coming up in March, added a night. But shortening a reservation is totally different and it can be a big hassle.

It has to be available for her new dates as an entirely new reservation. I dropped two days but in order to keep my discount I had to book a garden view. That was all that was left in the inventory.

If all the nights are available then you can modify the reservation, but internally the system will re-book. However, since all the nights are available you keep the same reservation number and on the surface you won't know about the internal changes.

Adding nights is easier than dropping nights, so if the OP adds two nights successfully, but later decides to try and drop two nights it can be a problem. It is not unusual in the hotel industry to re-book based on all the nights of the new reservation being available. What a hotelier doesn't want is a night or two cancelled because it is harder to fill those rooms, especially if it gets closer to the dates or if the hotel has reached a pre-determined threshold of rooms booked.

The really important part of the op is this part.

She totally can. But from her original post she wants to add with the thought that she might have to drop days in the future. And that's where the problems can come into play, where they could potentially lose the whole promo if she has to go back to the dates she has booked now, if DH can't do it, but the dates aren't available under the promo when they call to drop those days.

But shortening a reservation is totally different and it can be a big hassle.

Definitely best to avoid that potential hassle.

Thank you all for you great input! I am still waiting and hoping. I decided to not add any days until he says it's ok. From what you all said it seems like the best plan. I certainly don't want to mess up our original reservation with a "maybe". DH has a work issue that will hopefully get a resolution tomorrow and give us the all clear to add days. If not it's ok. Like I said before 5 days at WDW are better than no days. :)

Just wanted to give you an update. DHs work issues were ironed out so I was able to add 2 days to our reservation. It was not hard to do at all. I called the reservations number and eventually talked to a real person who was able to change everything for me. The worst part was I was on hold forever but the CM was super helpful and it all worked out. Yay!:yay: Thanks again for all of the great advice. I did try to change it online while I was on hold but the website wasn't working great. I think it was extra busy today? Cyber Monday? I don't know but I did get through eventually to a CM so it's all good! Thanks again!:)
